Both dead? If so, that's unfortunate, but it means we're nearly done here. 8 less adachrite in our collective pocket, but I guess you really didn't have a choice. Good job, though, and now we can leave just as soon as me and Bud finish with the others.

Search the watchtower for the two interrupted raiders' stuff, then get back to hand collection with Bud.

Search the watchtower for the two interrupted raiders' stuff, then get back to hand collection with Bud.

When you get up to the top you find a fully naked woman, dead from multiple stab wounds. Besides the various pieces of clothing, you find six more tokens, two empty syringes, a meat cleaver, and a bat.

After looting what you want, you return to Bud to find he has sawn through two more hands. Silly doesn't look eager to help. She sits in the shade under some large scrap, drinking some water from a waterskin. After about twenty more minutes, you and Bud have sawn and cauterized all the hands and stumps. Bud takes it upon himself to claim the hands and put them in his pack. Silly yawns and comes to inspect your handiwork.

"That's some good ol' fashion field surgery, you should look into a doctorate, big guy," she jokes with a smile.

"Yeah, and you should look into making yourself useful," he retorts with annoyance.

"I'm not paid to be useful, I'm paid to look pretty, remember?" she says. "Maybe we should throw this lot into the pit, have the owner deal with them when he returns."

((For future looting, you'll have to specify what you wish to take. I'll automatically assume you want currency, Motax, and applicable ammo, but everything else you must specify.))

If we had half a brain we would have grabbed the cleaver; it's literally designed for chopping through meat and bone, and would have been perfect for finishing up our butcher's work.

"Is that the last of them?  Any chance of more coming back that we could take by surprise?  If not, we should turn in these hands to Cog.  And -- fuck it, why not? -- bring him the heads of the dead ones, too."

All right, we're done here. Let's get these hands back to Cog and tell him about the stiffs. Don't really matter what we do with the ones that we've taken hands from, so long as we have the hands and they aren't dead.

Reclaim the nets and head back for the reward.

((Wee, it was specified that it was only 8 raiders.

Also, I'd like to add empty syringes/unknown syringes to the autopickup list.))

The dead tissue isn't a barrier, it's a breeding ground- the two are mutually exclusive. And it's pretty wet- why'd we cauterize it after all? It'll be literally in-contact with an artery, and the surrounding tissue should have perfectly fine circulation as well, all in direct contact with the dead tissue 'barrier'.
Aah, I went derp-mode. It's actually Gas necrosis, which also answers why dry necrosis doesn't spread as well- this version is caused by a certain kind of microbe that affects muscle tissue in particular, and produces gas & toxins which help it spread rapidly. This is the one that kills from wounds.

Anywho, you can't count on the cauterization being a perfectly-distributed job, nor being 100% sterilized. There will be some living tissue exposed, just as you can't kill all the bacteria.

+1, but a bit less wordy. A nod & a "Good job. Are you ok?" would probably suffice.

Grab the meatcleaver & bat, along with their other weapons. Might be able to pawn them for tokens. + the medkit if we don't use it.

I'd say tie them up, dress their wounds & leave them in the pit.
Don't worry about the heads, he can see them for himself when he returns, and he knows where to find us if we cheated him. Apparently there were only 8, on inspection of the ad.

Ooh, and what to do about the boar hide? (It's still on its body.)

-1 to dressing wounds, +1 to grabbing all the valuable (even remotely) stuff we can carry, including weapons.

Forget about the boar, it would take too long to properly clean, and we've only got one shoddy knife.

We have at least two- we started with one, and also got one from the raider.

((It's going to be sterilized enough that nothing too dangerous will be left in large enough amounts to do anything that quickly. And cauterizing tends to be a fairly even thing, you don't leave exposed bits when you do it.

And hey, the cleaver might work for the boar. However, way too long and not profitable enough.))

"Okay, we're heading out... Right after I grab that cleaver and bat. Bud, grab those other weapons," you say walking back in the direction of the watchtower.

"Why would you want those?" Silly asks as she follows.

"Might be worth a few tokens," you respond.

"You're really hurtin' for cash, aintcha?" You decide not to respond to that.

After you grab all the weapons, you head back to J-3. The trip seems shorter this time. Probably because Silly tells you about her travels. She claims to have been to every Junction, even 12 and 20. She also says there's a city where only surfacers are allowed. "I would live there, if I didn't have this wanderlust thing going on," she explains. Bud throws in a few snide remarks here or there, but besides that he stays silent. Soon enough, you reach the Junction.

Bud leads the way to Cog's shop, but lets you go in first. The smell of oil is heavy here, among the broken down machinery and metal scrap. You find Cog at his workbench, tinkering with something.

"Yeah, one sec," he calls while he slowly and meticulously puts fragile parts together. You hear a crack and the clinking of metal on metal as his work falls apart. "God dammit! Son of a whore, bitch... Fuck!" he yells, throwing the broken item violently to a nearby pile. He sighs deeply and gets up from his work station. He looks at you through protective goggles, which he slowly takes off and tosses onto the floor. "What do you want?"

You posted a reward for clearing your scrapyard of 8 raiders, 2 for death and 8 for hands. It's clear, and 6 of the raiders are still alive and we have their hands, 2 are dead, one in the watchtower and one directly below the watchtower.

Bud, bring in the hands.

Collect reward.

Bud, bring in the hands.

Collect reward.

Bud comes forward and empties his pack onto the floor. 12 hands tumble out, to Cog's feet. First, a look of shock crosses his face, then one of contentment. "I can't believe you actually got the hands..." he says, looking them over. He picks one up, one that has no little finger. "Serves 'em right, the bastards. Let me go get my scales and ada," he tosses the hand onto the pile unceremoniously and walks to the back room. Moments later, he returns with scales and a sack. He puts the scales on a nearby table and begins to weigh various crystals. "That's 52 ounce, yeah?" After a few minutes of crystal cutting and weighing, he waves you over to inspect his work. Bud insists that he double checks with his own weights. Cog agrees, taking no offence, and soon Bud verifies that the reward is adequate.

"You seem like decent folk, but I'm still gonna check on the results. I got plenty of ada to hire bounty hunters, so don't think I won't send them after you if you're scamming me."

"Cog, I live here," Bud says flatly.

"I've seen folk skip town for less," he says, gathering up his belongings.

"I'm getting some of this, right? I think 20 is fair," Silly says.

"I think you'll get 5 and be grateful," Bud snaps. This time, his retort isn't met with humour.

"I distracted them while you guys netted the fuckers. I tied up two more, and killed the last of them. Maybe 25 would be more fair, come to think of it," she says.

"You distracted them? More like you were about to get fucked before we came to save your sorry ass. And those two you capped were tripping. But you're right about the other two. The one's you killed. You should get 4 ounce for your trouble," Bud spits back.

Your killing of them did reduce our reward by 12 ada, Silly. I stand with Bud, you deserve the reward for the ones you killed, which is 4 ounces. Besides, we picked you up on a lark, you've got your 50 tokens for the initial 'fee' of yours and the reward for what you've done. Hang with us and you might get more for helping us out, or go your own way. But if you leave, we'll be taking the 50 tokens back, since it'll be you walking out on us.
