I can't help it, I'm a killer at heart. See: Super-RTD, where I'm planning to nuke Chicago to kill one man.

Use HE rounds with extreme prejudice.

You fire off one shot before being zapped by all the police stun guns simultaneously. Usually, this would merely knock you unconscious. However, your previous run in with enhanced stun guns has weakened your heart to the point at which it cannot handle the stress. You have a severe heart attack. One of the cops apprehends you as you breath your final breath.

You have been struck down.

Lokk-Agar sits quietly, and attempts to open himself to the magic around him.  He attempts to feel the spirits of fire that supposedly surround him, and call one to himself.

Attempt to call a spirit of fire to myself.

((Also, I get the feeling that waitlist spot is about to become open :P ))

You reach out into the flux in an attempt to call a wisp to yourself. You sense many wisps about the room. Calling to one, you feel your natural attunement kicking in. The fire wisp comes to you, and allows you to wield it. It's a basic fire spell, with it you can project a jet of flame from your hand.

(( Can you do it somewhere else? ))

Find cover and stay near my targets.

One of the men picks up the ailing child, and the group heads back in the direction of the bunker.

Yes!  Lokk-Agar's mind whirled with the presence of the fire spirit, it's magic filling him with visions of flame and destruction.  He controlled these thoughts, and pushed the spirit to a corner of his mind for later use.  He then got up from his seated position with the other students, most still obviously struggling with the exercise, and approached the teacher.
"Thank you for the training, but I'm afraid I have an important mission to attend to at the present.  Would I be able to come back for more training once the mission is done?"

Follow until they are in an area with few to no people then use my suppressed pistol to shoot down both bodyguards starting with the one not carrying a child, order the family to surrender, if they refuse then shoot them in the legs.

Flit was taking a cab back to her flat when the digital 'newspaper' laying on the front seat updated.

"Terrorist shot dead in marketplace bombing..." She reads to herself. She winced. Somebody had tossed a grenade into a group of innocent people. She vaguely recognized him, but couldn't place the face.

What a miserable world this was.

...

When she got back to the hotel, the weather was turning ugly. Well, uglier. It put her in a foul mood. Well, fouler.

Flit slid through the confusing honeycomb of passages and rooms that made up the prefab she was sheltering in. There were no names on the door, no numbers or letters. As long as you had the money, no questions were asked and you were free to come and go as you pleased. Whores, mercenaries and thieves bumped shoulder to shoulder, in and out all day. The erratic layout of the place was deliberate, as it has once been a secret prison for some group or another. There were still drifts of bones in some of the lower rooms, usually with holes drilled in their skulls. Not all of them were old. For those who didn't know their way about, it was a confusing death trap now, as it had been then.

Which was why Flit usually chose this place when she was in this part of the world.

...

She only began to feel safe after she was in her room-the quadlocks engaged, and the chugging hum of the old kinetic dampers came on.

It was spartan, in most sense of the word. There were no windows, only bleak permacrete walls. Tinkered equipment laying around. Scattered weapons. A grungy telescreen occupied the north wall, and after a moment it's rudimentary sensors detected her and it turned on, though soundlessly. A ceiling fan spun in meandering circles. A few pieces of battered furniture broke Flits fall as she sighed, removing her coat and sundry one by one. Casting away the shell.

...

Flit had nearly dozed off when her eyes clicked open. She had made a promise, hadn't she? The only one that mattered

She strolled over to the secure holo-at least as secure as she hoped it was-and made a call. Someone answered. She said the right words and codes in combination.

A few moments later, she saw the sleepy face of her own young daughter appearing over the holo-screen, smiling slightly. Meandering Flit. Mea, usually. It would be a lie to say everything she did was for her...for Flit could be a cruel person, angry and selfish and not at all heroic. There was no real cliche here, no deadly disease or expensive treatment that justified the horrible acts Audacious Flit undertook as a living.

She just needed the cash. Having grown up in the usual standard of abject poverty, Flit knew how it was. You sold out, or they broke you. Flit hoped to save Mea from this fate. She kept no hope for herself.

"...Hey honey. You ready for that story?" She asked kindly, forcing soft emotion back into her voice-the sort she suppressed in professional company. Flit had to try hard not to be the cruel person she really was right now, for her daughters sake. Hopefully she would never known the truth...one day, Flits luck would run out, maybe...the stories were all ready. An accidental death by drowning, no body. A generous inheritance. Hopefully, she would never know.

Mea nodded, shy as ever. She had her fathers stark jet black hair, carefully kept long, and her mothers own sapphire blue eyes. A promise was a promise, after all. She had trouble sleeping when her mother was away, and Flit had promised a whole chapter from Meas favorite book-the Raincatcher.

It was about a Kharmino who was trying to outfly a rain storm, an impossible task...which she suspected, was some sort of stealthy parable on life.

Action: Chill at hotel until mission. Speak to daughter over secure-holo.

"Thank you for the training, but I'm afraid I have an important mission to attend to at the present.  Would I be able to come back for more training once the mission is done?"

"Your training has not yet begun... But I sense one of my wisps within you. Keep it with you. Upon your return, we shall see how far into the flux you may tread." He sits down, waiting for his apprentices to finish their task.

(( I tried to warn you :) ))

Follow until they are in an area with few to no people then use my suppressed pistol to shoot down both bodyguards starting with the one not carrying a child, order the family to surrender, if they refuse then shoot them in the legs.

You follow the targets into a nearby alleyway, where they seek to return to the main road. When you turn to enter the alley, you notice one of the guards has his weapon drawn and pointed in your direction.

"Stay away, terrorist! I'm warning you..." The child behind him falls into a coughing fit, causing him to turn away for one fatal instant. You shoot him once in the head. This knocks him over, but his chitin keeps him alive. The other guard puts the child down and opens fire with his pistol. "You're gonna wish you was smarter!" he yells. Bullets ricochet past you as you get behind a dumpster. The woman and children seem too scared to run, for now.

(( Hey I just had a thought, how advanced are robots and AI in this setting and what about physical augmentation? ))

((There is advanced cybernetics, and AI on the level of sentience, but only just so. There aren't many robots that are that advanced, though. Mostly, they are programmed with commands and have little free will. Most sentient AI are confined to terminals and mainframes.))

((Well that was quick. Post later tonight.))

You find yourself in an arcade. Young children to young adults occupy themselves with the various consoles set into the walls. These day, most children would be playing virtual reality games in the safety of their own homes. But not all parents could afford such luxuries, to the dismay of their young. But sometimes the cost was no issue. It was the stories. Stories of children escaping into the virtual realm for many hours at a time, days even. The dangers of addiction plague all ages nowadays, and conscientious (or paranoid) parents would sooner have their children whine and complain than have them a VR addict.

But you didn't come for the games. You came for the promise of a job. Not only a job, though. The promise of a true broker, someone who had connections, someone who could get the real jobs and pay you thousands of credits for your services. But where is he? The letter told you to wait in this arcade, wearing a badge that was delivered to you. The badge depicted Kwaa in pink and yellow, smiling and winking.

Looking around once again, you notice something. That woman in the corner, the one in the bright pink coat, has been sitting at a corner table staring at you for the past fifteen minutes. When you look at her, she raises her hand and waives you over.

Action: Chill at hotel until mission. Speak to daughter over secure-holo.

It's not everyday you meet a sellsword with children. Connections make you weaker, some say. And the weaker you are, the less valuable you are. But could you put a price on the smile of your own child?

Slide into the seat across from the woman in pink.

Odd choice of venue, stranger.

She smiles and reaches into her jacket. For a second, your instincts tell you she was reaching for a gun. But she revealed something else. A small disk. After she presses one button on the disk, it forms into an earpiece. She puts it on for a moment, before reverting it back into a disk. Then, she presses another button and the device turns into a PDA. She hands it to you, already activated. A man was displayed on the device. He had greying hair and bright green eyes, and a suit of yellow.

Hello, my friend," he says, a smile spread across his face. "I have need of your services, and you of mine. I am the Kid, a broker quite skilled. I have a job for you, and many more in future, should you survive."

"You'll have four allies on this mission, they've already been debriefed. That is, if you're interested?"

Shoot the guy shooting in the face multiple times, shoot the guy who's down again so he stays down.

You set your gun to semi-auto and target the ramok's face. One shot grazed the side of his head, while the rest miss. You next few shots are aimed at the downed target, but his prone position makes him hard to hit. It doesn't look like he's getting up, though. The one who's still standing walks toward you, shooting and screaming while doing so. Though his aim is bad, and most of his shots fly past you. The rest plant themselves into the dumpster.

You see the woman and children try to get away! They're crouched, walking hurriedly to the other end of the alleyway.

((Once Hapah accepts, it'll be mission time for the rest of you.))

Put a full auto burst through the standing guards chest then shoot the fleeing family as well, aim for center mass. If for some reason the guard isn't down and he gets close then slice his gut open with my sword.

Armoth skims the mission content, then returns to the image of the Kid

I accept, though there is still work to be done. I assume you are a busy man, do you have an assistant or database I can query for more information?

Nod politely at the woman in pink, exit the Arcade. Look into:
  • Personal Body Armor ((Does shield technology exist? If so, that too))
  • Data Mining Software
  • Lockpick (Omnipin)
  • Tranq Gun
  • Restraints (Handcuffs, etc.)
  • Nature of the "accident" that will ensure the target researcher will be at the facility

((A quick and dirty summary is fine; I imagine people are ready to get started))

You send a volley over the dumpster and into your attackers skull. Two shots strike him in the face, one rips a plate from its place. Though that doesn't stop him. He throws away his gun and charges you. Little does he know, you have a blade waiting for him. One disembowelment later, you stand above a corpse. The targets are about to get away when you fire a few rounds and expend your mag. The shots miss, but force the trio to the ground.

"Hmhmhm, all you must do is use the disk to call up one of my contacts. They'll give you all the information you need."

  • Personal Body Armor ((Energy shields are not yet portable)): 150c for light chest, 300c for light body, 50c for light helm, and 500c for medium chest
  • Data Mining Software: You have a couple hacking tools at your disposal. What exactly do you mean by data mining?
  • Lockpick (Omnipin): 75c or 200c
  • Tranq Gun: 125c
  • Restraints (Handcuffs, etc.): zip tie for 5c a dozen, metal for 5c, arc for 75c

You contact one of the listed people in the Kid's employ. Asking of the accident that will happen, the contact gives you a brief description: "There are a vast amount of chemicals in the facility. We will make sure one of the harmless chemicals has a leak. It will scare the research heads, and they will inevitably call for a reevaluation of the safety protocols. This requires the Supervisor of Chemicals and Poultices, Foren, to stay behind late into the night."

Reload and order them to stay still, slice open the gut of the downed bodyguard on my way to them then use pieces ripped from clothing to bind the 3 targets, send a message to the kid asking him for transport back to base for me +3 and search the 2 guards taking weapons, money and anything else useful.
