Dran steps toward the brewing confrontation, hands raised.
All we're doing is seeing if he can translate some runes for us. That's all.

The severe-looking man now assumes a horrified expression, cutting off Dran's attempted explanation. How dare you address me so young lady! Is this how you treat all of your elders..?! It doesn't matter right now. I've more important things to do. Dran! He motions towards him. See to her. And you.. He jabs a claw-like finger at Alex, then smiles thinly, assuming a sarcastically pleasant tone. If you're quite ready.. His face droops into it's standard expression of impassivity and he pads off towards the dimly candle-lit heart of the library.

Once the man's back is turned, Dran makes a variety of mocking faces at the guy, then catches Bethany should she happen to run after them.

[Dwarmin]

Bethany's eyes smolder when Dran catches her arm.

"You better not be lying, Drip. I care about my friends...and, I'll fight for them if I have to.

You saved us in the desert, so I suppose I can trust you a bit...but, my Dad told me to be careful of people who were too nice. Sometimes they want something else. So, why don't you tell us what exactly you're after? Why do you lot all look at us like we're the catch of the day you just hauled into your boat? And what do you intend to do with us?"

She couldn't fight him on any fair level, but was intending to kick him in the crotch if he wasn't cooperative.

Unfortunately, at that point Derry would probably stab him in the back with his shoddy little spear...

Because, Bith, I and many of the people here have been wondering what's up on those islands of yours for years now. We occasionally find some crashed ones, full of magical artifacts and such, but they're empty. Abandoned. You represent a chance for us to get up there.
He leaned closer, still holding onto her arm.
This is possibly the most momentous thing that's happened to me, Biff. Everyone here really wants to see it happen ... evn if they don't know it yet.
Letting go of her arm, he turned to Derry.
Think about poking me with that thing and you'll be flat on your back before you can think.

So, as I was saying, Butt, we're just having your friend try to decode some symbols we've collected that could be useful.

Still, what happens when and if you find it? I know what happens to fat guys and cake, and your old man gives the impression he's awfully hungry to find my home and maybe eat it up."

I dunno about Lore, really. He's the type of guy who reads books and reads books and when there aren't any more books to read he looks for more. I think he just wants to see it more than anything else. Me, though? I want to be up there, on the islands. I've found such awesome stuff in the downed ones. I can't even imagine what I'll find in the inhabited ones!
And of course if I can get a little money on the side from opportunites that may crop up, I'll be happy to take them.

She nods, slowly.

"It's not like here, that's for sure. Alot nicer.

But, if you want us to cooperate, you're going to have to promise us you don't intend to hurt the people up there, if you do find them-our families and friends. Or let anyone hurt them. I've already noticed lots more of your people carry weapons than ours. Suppose this is such a horrible place, you need them.

And, this is a for real promise, Dran. I'm going to hold it to you personally."
