Sorry again scap..

Say guys, regarding RP, don't forget that you're kids. You don't want to be talking about monsters like you're already prepared to kill them. Sure, some of you will be ready to fight, but talking about some old place that could be filled with terrifying beasties, and calling those potential beasties "threats"? It just doesn't sound right, y'know? Especially since GWG is the only guy here who even knows how to read.

In no time the group of children have come to a decision, and set off immediately for the Oldway, cutting through the Meadow to get there rather than going through the city, so as not to draw the attention of any adults who might ask them what they're doing. Derry and Kyle begin bickering almost right away about whether or not they'll get to see some monsters, and Derry insists that he's going to bash one right upside the head if he gets the chance. Wells seems more eager than apprehensive about the danger, which is out of character for him to be sure, and in the meantime everyone else is more than a little scared about what might be ahead, though none of them show it of course. Beth also joins in on the monster fighting boast, and wagers that she could beat twice as many as any of you scud butts could! Derry wastes no time in tripling the bet, and it goes on like this for some time, until you finally reach the Overwood, a copse of trees marking the outskirts of the Oldway. Alex, Wells and Kyle disappear into the underbrush, and come out wielding some long sticks, though the one Wells hefts on one shoulder is more like a small log. Derry picks up a round stone and places it into his sling, and Beth pulls the band of her slingshot experimentally. Alex offers Jack a stick, but he opts not to take it, saying that he can defend himself just fine, should he need to. The others glance at him worriedly, concerned that he should decide to leave himself utterly defenceless. They drop the matter quickly, and once everyone moves on and the group begins making their way into the wood, Kyle and Jack share an understanding look with one another.

Despite the high, bright sun shining overhead, the forest floor is still dim and covered in shadow. The tall oaks whisper and groan as they sway in the wind, their ancient limbs creaking and stretching high overhead. The wind howls eerily and you all huddle close, climbing over massive roots and trudging through bushes filled with thorns. You soon reach a small clearing at the edge of a running creek, and everyone stops to take a break, tired after walking for so long. Alex and Beth talk, and he says that we're probably a few minutes away from the Oldway, and that we should reach it soon. Derry, who was taking a drink from the stream, suddenly yelps, nearly falling headfirst into the water. He stands up quickly, his face red, and he starts yelling. Who in the sky just tugged on my boot?! That isn't funny you jerks! Beth's eyes go wide and she shrieks. Behind you! Derry spins around and sees a green ball of slime lurching towards his feet and yells, smacking the thing [1 Damage!], causing it to jiggle. It doesn't slow its steady advance in the slightest, and in the next moment the group finds itself completely surrounded!

Hooded Robes - Rough blue robes you found in an old chest while exploring the Oddway one night. They're a little big on you, and you wear three large leather belts (also too big) around your midsection to keep them from trailing. You've taken to hanging pouches and gourds from them to keep your remedies safe, as well as hold the many trinkets and oddities you find [+7 Inventory]. There's a hood, and you like to keep it bunched up around your neck to keep you warm.
Thin Stick - A thin stick that you picked up off the ground [2 DMG].

Oaken Shield - A thick, round piece of wood that Guardsman Lyle gave you. A simple shield with a crude likeness of a fire-breathing dragon carved onto the face. Welly often gets to play the Knight whenever the others can actually manage to drag him outside, which lends to his quiet, protective nature. [if your opponent rolls a hit on you, roll 1d6. if the number is even, you block the strike and any damage it could have inflicted]

Climbing Gloves - Hard, leather, fingerless gloves with pads on the knuckles and the palms, great for scaling trees and hitting stuff without bruising your knuckles [climb things; 1 DMG].

Gear
Russet Wings - A pair of small leather wings that you wear on your back. They usually make you play the dragon, and you hate it. You think you're more of a wyvern, personally.

Substitute - You've always known how to do this, though you never knew why. You rarely use it in front of people, and you're rather afraid of this curious power of yours. [create a phantom image of yourself, enemies targeting you will attack it instead for the next two turns until you attack or combat ends; costs 3 MP]
Gear
Mysterious Artefact - A round, thin metal disc about six inches across with intricate carvings inlaid on either side. You usually keep it tucked away inside your shirt where no one can see it. Sometimes, when you look at it while you're alone, it glows with a strange blue light. You showed it to the others, and Alex claimed to recognise the symbols from something he saw in the Oldway. Everyone came to the unanimous decision that you should all head there in search of it.
Thin Stick - A thin stick that you picked up off the ground [2 DMG].

Kyle takes back the disk and hides it in his breast again.
"Well then, is there anything else that everyone needs to talk about? By the way, good show Beth."

Beth had blushed a bit and smiled at that. She certainly liked to be complimented...one could say the seeds of pride had already begun to grow within her heart-one day...

...

Beth looked about at the brainless goo that had encircled them. Enchanted sink scum, more or less. Her father had told her...

Bethanys father was in many ways, a man before his time-or so he considered himself. He had spent his youth exploring the city and cataloging it's wonders-he had developed a knack for bothering about with strange old machines. Only the needs of a family kept him from going further. After his wife died in childbirth, he dedicated himself more toward his surviving daughter than before. As such, he had made Bethany her first pair of wings at seven-simple toys, he thought. Not suspecting they would actually work, or that his headstrong daughter would leap from the roof of their small, one room house and end up in a thorny pokeberry bush after a brief moment of clumsy acrobatics.

Sensing she was to inherit his wanderlust if he approved or not, he improved his technique-and began training her...he died a happy man (though this hasn't happened yet in our story, the loss is years away), somehow knowing she would go further than he had ever had.

Her father had told her such creatures were usually small and harmless-the size of coins, and they usually ate bugs and trash-not stupid nosy kids. Then again, in the more civilized areas, they were wiped out before they got too big or dangerous...Dad said they were only dangerous when they got bigger...and that by and large, you shouldn't fight them up close unless you had to-they could burn you, sometimes just with the stuff they were made of. These puny ones were not so bad, but she wouldn't be surprised if Derry got an ugly patch of red blisters on his knuckles later. What a scudbrain!

Bethany steps up, her young voice cracking a bit as she tossed around orders.

"Let's start with that one! Everybody concentrate on one at a time!" She said, drawing her slingshot and loading a little rock into it. Bethany coldly picked out the one that Derry had punched. It wasn't bleeding, or even slowed down, but it did look a little...gooier than the others. She was glad she had a weapon.

She remembered the day Derry had pressed the little slingshot into her hand. It was obvious-to her, if no one else-that he had put a great deal of effort into it, just for her. She had pecked him on the cheek (when noone else was looking, of course) and he had blushed like there was a fire under his skin. He was a scudbrain, sure, but he could be very sweet...at least, when he thought no one was making fun of him..or as he put it 'looking down at him'...then he could be angry, even scary...

But, Bethany was young, and she remembered the good more than the bad.

It was this casual memory of her friendship that brought a smile to her face and steadied her aim.

Action: Pling Slime 2 with my slingshot! Hit Slime 1 if it's already splatted.

((Sorry Dwarmin, nicking your idea for mid-post background exposition.))

Derry rocked back on his feet, reeling from the disgusting beasts. His eyes narrowed as he eyed the one that had dared to attack him...
Beth, leave that one alone. I'M killing that one.
Sure Beth was a good shoot with that slingshot he had made for her, but he wanted to kill this one. He wasn't going to let anyone push him around...

"Stop cowering! Stand up and take your punishment like a man, you little bastard!"
"NO! PLEASE!"
*WHACK*
"ARGH!"
"Please, I barely tapped you! Now pack up those boxes and get 'em home you worthless piece of shit!"

Derry shook his head. That was the past, this was the now and there was an uppity pile of vomit that was begging for a thrashing.

Fire a pebble at slime 1 and then give it a proper thrashing with fists and feet if it isn't dead.
