« on: June 12, 2008, 11:15:00 am »

Ok, so i managed to floor off the pits but nomatter what when i dig into the most upper room where the pits end i get raped by a horde of tentacle demons. What the...? Where in the hell do they spawn from?

Walling off or flooring over the pits themselves doesn't help. You might have to wall off the entrance to the HFS and then just mine all the "safe" ore all around them.

Ah shit, problem is that its not the ore around it i want so much, its the magma directly beneath it and showing in that exact room where those tentacle demons spawn i desperatly need. Argh, theres no way i can wall it off or do they simply spawn from the rooms themselves?

They are somewhere in the room, stealthed. You'll have to kill them to get the magma.

I think i've found another solution, but i'll have to be very quick (draining the magma somewhere safe)

Just to warn you, there's probably not enough magma for you to properly 'drain' anywhere. Since the magma in HFS tends to be small pools, if you try to channel it any reasonable distance away it'll most likely thin out and evaporate.

Remember too that the magma must have a depth of at least 4/7 to be usable in forges/smelters.

Aside from depth issues mentioned before this post, it's worth pointing out that there isn't anything quick about draining magma anywhere.

Yes thanks, currently it looks like this:

+++++++
+~+++~+
+~++~~+
++~~~++
+~+++++
+~+++++
+++++++

10 tiles with magma, 8 of them with 4/7 and 2 with 5/7

I was thinking of channeling like this:

++_++_+
_~+++~+
+~++~~+
_+~~~+_
+~++.++
_~++.++
++_++_+

+ is wall
~ is magma
. is floor
_ is channel

This would give me potential for 8 magma buildings with just a bit of luck (attempting to drain the magma for ten buildings would likely be too difficult)
After the magma is drained into the channels i could dig out where the magma now currently is and for safety wall where the magma was (because on the level above is where those tentacle demons are)

A feasable plan?

Turns out 8 was near impossible (or simply impossible, 1/7's barely move or evaporate before they do) so i had to settle with 7 save pockets of magma wich is better then having nothing. (is there any reason to when HFS has a little bit of magma or not? Could be a refreshing tactic contrary to not embarking anything wich doesn't have magma)
