I think my character just wants to leave and thus joins the group, not because he thinks that one of the others is his client.

Maybe the client was just killed by some dusky "business partner" or something like that.
Or maybe you let him play a role later in the story

Here are some just ballpark figures for things so you can get an idea on prices:
5 will get you a drink
50 will get you some standard clothes
500 will get you a cheap (space) gun
3000 will get you a space suit

600,000 will get you a junker
1,400,000 will get you a medium price 5 man ship
3,200,000 will get you a high market 5 man ship

Of course prices are pretty variable depending on what the ship actually is.
