Tenra Bansho zero
« on: July 07, 2013, 08:43:42 am »

So I have recently been playing and reading the rules and lore for this RPG and man this whole thing is so amazing I keep pestering our current GM to play with us. It's easy to get into character sheets are not a mess and it's so much fun.

First thing I did was cause a massive fight, get raped by something horrible, my escape plan was to cause a massive explosion and escape in it that failed then I got shot to many many pieces and rolled a new character :P

Also general thread for tenra.

But also I am looking at possibly GMing ( or coGMing if I can persuade vellum ) ( I know I do this a little bit and cop out due to work or other things ) the great thing about this game is that I can split up the story easily or make small chapters in the large story if I don't have much time. My campaigns would also have carry on characters and lots of sub plots and general sandboxyness also I can steal ideas from my current GM :D

So would anyone be interested in playing ? And I think I would use roll 20 and my badly badly drawn maps :P

Don't know what I'm talking about? http://www.penny-arcade.com/report/article/why-you-should-care-about-tenra-banso-zero-the-rpg-one-man-spent-seven-year

Seven YEARS translating? What is this.. ::) Did he include the time it took to learn the language in the first place?

Edit : Although that was a very interesting and nice top kickstarter reward.

Important question:  Did you get raped as in that thing dumb people say as a synonym of "owned" or did you get actually raped?

Was that accounted for in the rulebook or was it just your usual gross GM shenanigans?

Having watched my sister working on a game translation patch project for the past few years, this timescale seems pretty believable if they a) are not working on it full time, and b) are deeply invested in the quality of the translation. Trying to translate both the meaning and the intended tone can be incredibly difficult, even ignoring the words and concepts that don't have easy English equivalents.

Also, depending on the source material, "translating" could also include days of trying to track down elusive mythological or cultural references so you know what's being referenced, how to spell it, etc... based on only a butchered phonetic reading.

I have been watching this project for quite some time! Finally picked up the PDF when it was released, too, so I'd be interested. (I would have gone for the paperback...but I was saving that for Golden Sky Stories, another Japanese RPG that got kickstarted right after Tenra.)

I really like the summoning mechanics of the game, I don't remember exactly right now, but you basically could either roll some dice to get possibly much more powerful summons...but then they could go out of control and kill you. Alternatively you could set your own traits and get a known, but slightly less powerful creature.

I actually have my own copy, from the Kickstarter :) At least, I should. Do you have a time? I'll see if I can make it. (And get you on Steam shortly, probably tomorrow morning.)
