Need advice with my current castle
« on: July 06, 2013, 10:10:35 pm »

This is the first time I decided to go ahead and create a castle and I have been doing good so far. I want to get most of the fort operations that can be above ground in the castle and my current goal is to get the dinning room/meeting-hall created. The two undecided sections are potential areas where it could be placed. If one of them were going to be used what would I do with the other one? I need to get a plan going soon so I can add the upper layers of the fort where bedrooms and workshops can be kept. Also If you have any other suggestions/ideas please share I need some more ideas with what to do in my castle.

I would definitely use the green bit and set it as meeting hall too.

The green bit appears to be near the middle, so it'd allow your dwarves the most consistent of reaction times.
(When they're not partying of course.)

Worth to note too, that a large meeting hall ( the green one ), will keep you dwarves more spread out and less likely to make friends.
-and therefor less likely to cry their lives away when people start dying!

Nice work so far! You could leave the big area mostly undeveloped and use it as a courtyard. Just add some statues, maybe a fountain. It would fight cave adaptation and give you a reason to build a taller castle. The dining hall could go in the smaller area, which is still quite large for the purpose.

Another idea: build an arena in the smaller area. You'd want to reserve the space directly above it for a cage stockpile and mass pitting system (check the wiki). It's a great way to train soldiers.
