I was going to switch to squire for the first couple fights, but I must have missed where Balmafula didn't follow.

I know double-posting is bad form, especially right after a post I've been editing a bunch, but this is important.
Nevermind, thanks Fool  ;D

We're in the setup phase, which means you can all change or decide on your Job, buy some abilities with your 150 JP per job per person, have petty squabbles over who gets how much of which equipment, and call dibs on which spot (inside that green rectangle in the battle map) you will actually start in. I know it looks like I already have you guys lined up, but that's just to illustrate that you're physically present; first one to call dibs on a spot gets that spot.

In future, the "setup phase" will just be amalgamated into the first turn of combat.
For now, I'm using profile pictures to represent you guys, since I don't have all of the battle sprites yet.

As for the terrain in this fight:
-The stone floors you're standing on, the white marble floors to the north, and the stairs between them do not alter combat at all, except that the white floors are vertically lower than the ground you're on. Physical ranged attacks (i.e. with a bowgun) get be fired at +1 range if the attacker is on the gray floor and the target is on the white floor.
-the rubble between you and those south piscodermons, and the wood splinters (how have they not rotten? it is a mystery) beyond them, are difficult terrain. You requires 2 Speed points per tile to move through them.
-The nearest piscodemon is facing a pillar, which may or may not be hard for you to see. You can't move through that space, and it stops projectiles (like bowgun ammo or thrown items). Obstacles do not stop magic, though, and you can- somehow- see through them just fine.

Oh, by the way, the players and enemy characters act as obstacles for projectiles, too. You can't throw a potion to an ally if another ally is in the way, and if you try to shoot an enemy who's on the other side of a friend, you're going to shoot your friend instead  :P So be careful about your turn order!
(you can avoid this by using a bow & arrow instead of a crossbow, except you actually can't just now because you don't have them)

Turn order will go in the order of the posts, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Might as well do the ability-buying and position-dibbing in this thread instead of the In-Character thread. You know, to preserve the atmosphere for posterity.

"Squidlarkins! Oh no!" I change job into squire, buy Throw Stone and Immolate, and equip a scimitar. Derpette, I'm going to take the top-rightmost position, if that's okay. "Have at you!"
 ::)

EDIT: Oh right, the campaign file. You're all gonna want that. Heh...
Note that nitty-gritty details about the Piscodemons' abilities are not available. I have them, but you don't; you're going in half-blind. You do have Lore available (dammit forgot to write that up) that says they're supposed to be stronger than an average human and have a blinding attack, but these ones have grown soft after being devoid of predators for so long.
linky
Mental note to self, write up Rumoured Lore about the Orbonne Library's anti-dust bullcrap, Common Knowledge Lore about Squidlarkins, Daravon's profile, and re-upload the campaign.

I'll take the rush ability for the squire, my position is fine behind everybody else.

Lol I was looking for the map on the campaign file not here, woops.

Can you post the abilities here? I'm on my grandma's computer at the moment and I can't download the campaign file and stuff.

I'm change to squire, equip the leather armor/helmet, and take the top middle spot. No skills for now, but I'll have my special class as a secondary skill set.

EDIT: Definitely the middle. I just noticed how low my HP was. XD

I'll go as brawler and take momentum as my ability. I will also stay in the tile I am in currently.

Would it be possible for me to have a crossbow/ do I have one? I remember something about being able to use them and the party having them, but I don't know if that means we actually had them or if it was temporary. I'd rather keep the blade if it's one or the other.

also, argh I have such a hard time deciding what to do with Archer vs Alchemist.

Archer gives me a shot at Beastmaster, which would be awesome, and Thief which would also be very useful...
Alchemist is my favorite as a base class, and throw item is so bloody good. If there's a way to get Throw Item and then later take up Archer and keep Throw Item, I'm all over it.

So... I don't know yet. Suggestions?

No idea, I'm still trying to find the skill page for blood siren so I can see if I should spend my job points on it instead of squire,

I take it back, I'll spend points. Increased JP isn't worth making yourself less useful in a game like this. Maybe as a ranged class, but not a melee class. If anyone cares I'm going towards geomancer for now.

Buying:
Squire: Defend
Alchemist: Potions
Mist Berserker: Burning Strike

Current Set-up:
A. Skill 1: Squire (current job)
A. Skill 2: Mist Berserker
Support: Defend

The group has one bowgun in party inventory. Kyle and Elizalotte can equip it in their base class, or anyone can equip it if they switch their job to Archer. No, you aren't able to equip both a sword and the bowgun, although I think that one of Elizalotte's future unique job abilities is going to involve being able to equip one ranged and one non-ranged weapon, and switch between them with some kind of speed penalty...

As for the Archer vs. Alchemist thing, Alchemists are support units; they suck rather a lot at fighting. They're also currently your only means of healing, and in that capacity their ability to use potions at range is pretty nifty. Archers can fight at range though, making it easy to gang up on one enemy and remove him from the fight quickly. You might have noticed that everyone, even the comparatively frail Heath, can tank one or two hits, but four will drop pretty much anyone.

And yes, you can work up to having the JP to buy Throw Item as a support ability, then switch to another job, use the Item ability set and Throw Item for your support ability, and you'll be just as good an alchemist as an actual alchemist.

Alchemists tend to get outclassed by Clerics, who can heal a group of people and can heal more damage at once, but the balancing factor is that Clerics can fight even less than Alchemists, and run out of MP faster than Alchemists run out of potions. If you're going to be using a lot of stalling tactics, go for Alchemists over Clerics.

I think I'll sub Alchemist and buy Throw Item with my JP, and save the rest for later.

I suggest Potions first. Alchemists are going to have a tough time if they can't use items at all.
