I changed mine, forget the squire thing entirely I'll purchase red euphoria instead and just stick purely with the blood siren thing.

Other then that all is good.

I'll point this out before you drop everything you're buying.

We're in the setup phase, which means you can all change or decide on your Job, buy some abilities with your 150 JP per job per person, have petty squabbles over who gets how much of which equipment, and call dibs on which spot (inside that green rectangle in the battle map) you will actually start in. I know it looks like I already have you guys lined up, but that's just to illustrate that you're physically present; first one to call dibs on a spot gets that spot.

We have 150 JP per job to start. If you're abandoning squire altogether at least get Defend as a support skill. It'll reduce damage for now until you get something better.

oh per job well ain't I stupid
Buy Potion for Alchemist, and if possible equip it somehow? Support ability? I can't remember what's valid and what isn't for those slots honestly.

You have:

Your current classes basic skills
1 Class of choice's basic skills
A Reaction ability (things like Counter that trigger when things happen)
A Support ability (Defend must be selected, but some others are passive)
A Move Skill (Move - Find Item, Move +1 are examples of this)

I assume you mean Bloodlust, since you didn't add Red Euphoria to your purchasable ability list  :-\

sub command should be Items for Grace and I mean middle left space(I been getting right and left mixed up for a while now.)
I thought Grace is using the Alchemist job right now... which means she's already got access to the Alchemist skillset in combat, as her primary command set. Setting it as her sub command would be just pointless. ("Let's see I can use potions or... use potions.")
If you wanted to buy an ability for one of your other jobs as well and use that as your sub-ability, that would actually do something.

What he means is, you can basically have two sets of action abilities. One for your current job (as far as I know yours is Buccaneer right now), and one other. You have no buccaneer abilities purchased right now, but you did say you wanted to buy Covering Fire (the Archer ability).
I'll just refund you Covering Fire for now, and you can buy the Potions skill and set Alchemist as your secondary skillset.

Anyway, the first fight is deliberately toned down a bit. For out-of-character reasons, it's so that you guys can figure out how to do the whole combat thing, and for in-character reasons it's because the squid-monsters haven't had any competition for their fish in a looooooong time, so they've gone soft. They're great at out-swimming small fish; not so great at the whole hand-to-hand combat thing.

So, post your actions in the in-character thread and let's get this thing under way already. Remember, you're still able to change your setup, as long as you do so before your first action; after that, it's locked in for the rest of the fight.

Oh. Ok, how much does each bucaneer ability cost? I didn't find that in the file, and thought I had the two chosen from earlier already learned.

...Ugh...
Spoiler: Buccaneer Abilities (click to show/hide)

Okay. To find the ability lists, open the campaign file, and go to the Lore map (by clicking the Select Map button at the top-right of the maptools screen).
Make sure your maptools screen has the Impersonate mini-window open; if it's not, at the top of the screen select Window -> Impersonate. (if that has a checkmark next to it, it's already open and you just missed it)
Next, right-click and Impersonate Daravon (you can't miss him, he's got text boxes pointing at him and everything). The Impersonate window will change; it'll now be named Daravon, and it'll have a bunch of buttons in it, named after all the Jobs the group has available. Those buttons represent macros, which I've programmed to put the table for the corresponding Job's ability list into the chat window. Click the button, and the table appears.
That is, it will appear if your chat window is open. If not, a small "talking" icon will appear at the bottom left-hand side of your maptools map. Just click that and it'll open your chat window up. (or you could through the menu and select Window -> Chat )

Create Table Construct going west.
Okay, but... Did you mean east?

Alexandria has opted out of the game in a PM, so I'll put her on GM-auto for the remainder of the fight and the next waitlister can join in for the next one.
Here's hoping Ser Fool is okay with doing up another portrait and sprite set   :(
First round of combat, coming right up...

EDIT: Since she's not going to be staying, I'll modify Alexia's loadout a bit.
I'll have her switch to Alchemist for her current job and buy the Potions skill, equip one of those daggers, set Squire as her secondary ability set and buy Throw Stone for it. She'll basically be a support unit, healing you guys if you need it and throwing rocks at people otherwise.

EDIT2: I'll be heading out of town late tomorrow. I'll still be able to update, albeit somewhat sporadically... so basically it's business as usual  :P

I just realized I haven't added any balancing factors against crossbows. According to the rules as I've written them, Crossbows do almost as much damage as swords (1 less damage, to be exact), but can be used at range. In the original game, the fact that ranged weapons can be used at range is balanced by the fact that they do much less damage than swords. Not realistic, but balanced... kinda.
Whoops...
I'll leave that as it is for the remainder of the tutorial fight, but before the next one I'll make sure to nerf the bowgun by making it only use half your Str score for damage or something.

...I'm pretty sure I had a plan.

Shoot the piscodemon farthest to the north.
You don't have enough Spd to do that.
The bowgun only has a range of 2~3, or 2~4 if you're shooting at someone lower elevation than you, so to get within shooting range of the piscodemon who's furthest to the north, you would need to move 6 spaces and then attack. You would need 7 Spd to do all of that, and you only have 4... So I'll have you advance forward and make yourself useful by attacking someone who's actually in range, if that's fine.

If not, just say so and I'll edit/retcon the turn, and Elizalotte will probably attack the Piscodemon next to Kyle, like she planned.
If so, you and Kyle managed to defeat that Piscodemon in one turn before Eliza acted, which would leave her to decide whether to move forward and attack (she has enough speed to do that) or to stand her ground and wait for it to come to her. Or do something else (like use Ocean Wave Stance).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, I have Final Fantasy Tactics and Grimoire of the Rift, though I don't remember the plotline. Haven't played FF12 much, either, though I have Revenant Wings and the normal game.

Shouldn't be too long until waitlist gets to me, right?

As for balance, what about making ranged weapons take more speed to use than melee weapons? Realistic, and mostly balanced; crossbow users can't be expected to move around much, can they?

Speed / Dexterity should play more of a role, but moreover, ability to move before firing should be dampened (Requires a certain number of speed points let to use, maybe? Walking slowly forward while working a bow is possible, but sprinting ahead isn't.)

The update today is going to take some time. The battle is finished (no casualties, good job!  :P), so now I've got to...

-write up some "what now" text
-assign exp and JP
-post the loot
-make up the monetary costs for all consumable items

And before the start of the next fight I need to...
-add a Lore entry for Piscodemons (after you finish a fight with a monster or a person with a unique Job, it'll get added to the Lore map under the human Jobs, so you can see all of their abilities)
-make up the Ability tables for Monks, Knights, Beastmasters, Thieves, Wizards, and Clerics. Thanks goodness the chapter of the story isn't over yet, so I don't need to add anything to your Unique classes just now.
-make the in-battle tokens a bit more informative, so I don't have to constantly switch between maps to check on your equipment and such...
-get rid of Daravon and put the ability tables in the campaign macros. It'll probably bugger some of you up a bit when it comes to looking those tables up, but... worth it, I think.

Oh, and I should do up the Lore entry for Murond's ecosystem at some point...

Also, your loot is going to include "alchemy reagents", due to the fact that you have Alchemists on your team and Alchemists come with Field Alchemy as a passive skill. Basically these reagents are free money that you can use to "buy" (i.e. make) consumables like potions or acid bombs. Any item usable as an Alchemist skill can be created when you're outside of combat. You don't need to have an alchemist in your party to turn reagents you've already gathered into items, but any alchemists you DO have in your group get priority when it comes to deciding what to turn your reagents into.

EDIT: Those of you not using your Unique job have gained a Job level, which grants you access to new Jobs. Heath is eligible for Monk and Knight, Grace is eligible for Wizard and Cleric, and Gregory is eligible for Thief and Beastmaster.

EDIT2: I've edited the campaign file a bit. It still lacks the new ability lists, and I'm not actually putting the Murond Ecology lore in it yet, but there it is. At least you can all poke around it and see if you're able to access the ability lists or whatever. Also, since Alexia's leaving, her longsword is available. linky

Right, now to binge read everything in this campaign file to be up to speed and hopefully cut down on stupid questions I'll undoubtedly ask.
