...INTJ is roughly 2.1% of the overall population. So that bronies are 12 times more likely to be of that type than the general population seems significant.

So I'm statistically inclined to like MLP?

I've watched maybe six episodes before giving up on it back when it first started. It's a very well constructed children's show, and I admire it as a good show for children to watch, but it just doesn't hold my interest. It's an OK show that sparked one of those spontaneous bandwagons among an unintended audience where the whole bandwagon movement was largely formed around the fact it wasn't explicitly aimed at them, or "forbidden fruit" as another put it, and as a sort of counter-culture. Once it gained critical mass there was a sort of persecution complex that developed among other things which only further reinforced it. The fandom annoys me so much I actually would trade them to go back to the days when people spammed shitty fetish porn instead of this.

It's highly overrated and should not have the following it does.

Why?

Rest of your post made sense, but this...  ::) "Boys liking girl things" is the inferior counter-culture movement?

Also, I'll echo what Neonivek said earlier. Even if you are not a fan of MLP (and I'm not), don't pass off the entertainment you can get from other shows that are deemed kid-oriented. Like, for example, Avatar.

Man, I love magical girl stuff and a whole bunch of cute things, but I've never even had the urge to watch a single episode of MLP.  I think it's the whole "mascot" thing.  If they were humans or humanoid or just something other than all ponies all the time, I might like it, but a world that's full of a single anthropomorphized animal species hits the "why would you make this choice, this is stupid" button (perhaps not rightfully so, but seriously, it's just my matter of taste).

I will always be impressed by the fact that they are ponies and lack hands and yet their homes, tools, and what have you are clearly not designed for their use.

Careful what you wish for. This is cannon/a movie or a show or whatever.

My friend's daughter is 9 years old. She loves this, so of course I'm gonna watch it with her.

I dunno. The show is kinda sweet and pretty well written, especially for a kid's show. Also it's nice to see something that doesn't have a plot reduced to nothing more than "shoot/smack the crap out of something" or "let's be super competitive and jerks to each other." It also shows that it's ok to be different. Oddly enough, though they may be sort of stereotypes, the characters show different types of girls being themselves and getting along. You don't have to be a cookie cutter version of lacking a Y chromosome if you're a girl. I'm sorta glad she watches this instead of some of the other cartoons that are on today (which are kinda terrible sometimes).

My major issue with that cartoon... is...

Look at the Ponies. None of them are wearing pants

See, I don't think I'd watch that either, because I dislike the art direction.

But yeah, no issue with a female main cast.  I'm not saying little kids shouldn't like it, or that people in general shouldn't like it, it's just that it falls into an anthro thing I've never, ever liked, no matter my age.

The only problem is that you hear only about the worst part of the fandom. But ultimately I tend to think that the hate directed at fans of the show is pretty much the same thing as people thinking that all Goths eat children, all Industrial fans are Nazis and all Black Metal fans murder people and burn churches.

Rainbow Dash kind of is, she's got a skirt over it though. She's playing soccer in it anyhow.

See, I don't think I'd watch that either, because I dislike the art direction.

I was like that at first. I thought, "Well, I don't care what it is. I'm just happy to watch it with this kid." That's still my primary motivation, but I have to say somewhere along the way I found it fairly well done.

It's cool that you don't like the art style if that's not your thing. :)

Dammit, Truean, that's actually pretty convincing.  I might try the first episode at some point.

[soft appreciative smile, slight curtsy]

Aww, that's very nice of you to say Vector. I seem to be somewhat low on Vector hugs lately.... Do you think you could please fix that?

:) .... [offers hug]

Yeah though, the show is something I think adults can watch with their kids without too much pain and that's really nice actually. Sitting there with the kid has actually improved my outlook significantly (not sure how much of that is the show as opposed to just hanging around kid).

I never grew up. I still am 12. I might have lived for 20 years, but to me, I'm very much a child. The other parts of it is that I like what I like, and I was always the outcast, therefore I never wanted to fit in. And I'm 20% more gay than the average dude.
I cry like at the drop of a hat. I cry watching adventure time just as much as I cry listening to master of the wind by Manowar. I never had a male role model in my life to stomp out what I am. And I admit I didn't like MLP at first, but I suppose I warmed up, just as I warmed up to K-pop. It gets better after the 10th time you see/hear it.

The only problem is that you hear only about the worst part of the fandom. But ultimately I tend to think that the hate directed at fans of the show is pretty much the same thing as people thinking that all Goths eat children, all Industrial fans are Nazis and all Black Metal fans murder people and burn churches.
I've explained this in prior threads related to this topic, but the hate (even though not totally justifiable in the sense that ALL fans are like that) came due to the sudden explosion in popularity of the show, followed by the quick bandwagon of it. This definitely pissed off plenty of people, as it was essentially EVERYWHERE and the initial community was very "pushy" regarding the show. So in many parts of the internet, this served as a bad first impression, and that ultimately stuck. I can say for sure the community is definitely different now, but a lot of the problems which was present at its beginning is still prevalent today, but I admit they aren't as "out there" as they were prior.

I'm really only focusing on the community over the show, as I think cartoon-wise it's pretty run of the mill and there's not much to discuss about it. It's fine, but that's just really all it is. I just really find it interesting how communities spring up on the internet overnight, form their own general ideas and beliefs, and interact with other communities. I've been around since the show began to get popular, and despite it being rather...odd watching it grow in popularity, it's been interesting nonetheless.

What I imagine will happen with the show, is that the people making it will realize that they can now market the show to an unintended yet profitable audience (The "Brony" community.) They'll then try to shift a lot of attention towards this community and cater the show somewhat to their wants, but will fail in doing so and just piss off their brony audience. Then it'll die out just like pretty much any fandom based on a cartoon or TV show, and everyone will forget about it and get angry at the next "annoying fandom."

Why do some people like MLP? Same reason people like Dwarf Fortress. Essentially it can be boiled down to a simillar line between all Internet fandoms, which can either be translated as:

1. We're all unique people with varying biological traits and lives that influence the subjective appeal we find in whatever entertainment media that we become attached to.

Or

2. We're all a bunch of anti-social perverted neckbeards within the autism spectrum that can only relate to each other through our own insecurities.

Take your pick.

... Seriously though, I'll be home in a few days and as a Brony, I'd be happy to answer the questions of the OP or any Non-Brony here about the show's fandom based on my own analysis and experienced.
