Dragonskulls has crumbled to it's end.
« on: July 05, 2013, 08:02:13 am »

I've never done this before, so bare with me if I goof.

Here's a form you call fill out to reserve a spot on the roster, as well as suggest an embark, fort name, and/or world seed:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18LQfMALTxGLMxzLCtfoeRqmUhrgp8lrUe5sgCRBjdiQ/viewform

  I now have a full expedition's worth, the roster so far;

Based on suggestions, I'm going to find myself an evil, savage mountain to dig into.

I'm interested as what will evolve out of this one. Would it be too dificult to put up the roster for everyone to see?

Welcome to Murdermachines. Try the gecko sauce; it's delectable and delightful, a wonderful blend of savory and spicy that makes any dish delicious without being too overwhelming.

(Warning: Do not ask about the manufacturing process for gecko sauce)

We must found a new mountain home for the good of all [CIV]. We will encase the goblins in gold and stone and sell them as interesting conversation pieces to human gentlemen that have a somewhat lacking parlor in their manor.

I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

I will update once I've an expedition's worth. I currently only have 3; seems many a dwarf are being as skittish as the ploughin' elves...

I'll join. I've always wanted to do one of these.
My guy has been raised by reptile men, and was later kidnapped by goblins, before being taken in a dwarven siege. Later, he was chosen to be the overseer of x (Where x is the name of the fortress).

Only gonna wait a couple more days before embarking. Two slots left on the founding expedition. If I don't get a couple more dwarves I'll just name them after w/e, and later entries will have to be migrants.

Looks like we're embarking on an evil mountain, possibly with a volcano, if I can swing it.

Should I update with replies, or edit the main post? I'll try a reply and see how that goes.

For my embark site I've chosen an evil mountain named 'The Frozen Finger'.

Skulldragons strike the earth!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I decided to bring a couple of sows along. We're very exposed when we start....we need to get digging ere the giant dingoes get hungry!

I know you guys have preferences for labors, but right now I need every dwarf to do a little bit of everything. There's so few of us, and much to do!

Down to the south I can see we're at the edge of a non-evil biome, and that we actually have trees! We'll have enough wood to get by, thankfully.

Just to our north is a river, and it has a lovely waterfall. I think I'll build our dining room around it, assuming we get that far.

I unpause the game after designating some digging...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...and we're off to a great start! Elf blood is lucky omen, right? Well, all our stuff is coated in it! Presumably, we can expect this type of weather semi-frequently. I can't keep letting you guys get caught out in it, or you'll all go nuts!

All must shower in elf blood IN THE NAME OF ARMOK

Also can we get a list of all the named dwarves and true current professions?

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'true'. I'm gonna guess you mean what they'll be doing in the long run. So far we've really only got a dedicated mechanic, metalworker, engraver, and woodworker.

Unit list view of current dorfs. We just got 3 migrants and one of them started fishing.

Our grazers are starving. There is no grass, only pools upon pools of elf blood. Don't worry, I've got a butcher's shop and tanner's shop prepared. I think I'll try weaponizing the river for defense. I've never built a drowning corridor before and it seems fun.

A humble beginning. You can see Dragonskulls' first stockpile (the 'everything' stockpile) as well as some workshops and food production.

Current population/supplies/etc.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Drowning hall for invaders and eventually maybe elves. You can see the barracks/hospital. Right as I created that, my dwarves stole a ton of cloth from the caravan. I've noticed them doing that once before, at a different fort.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I haven't had any undead or anything, just elf blood rain. The blood rain is pretty constant, though. I can't seem to surface farm, even though I have many, many surface seeds, I still see the 'you have no seeds for this location' prompt.

We had a siege. I let the goblins wander into the drowning hall, then pulled all the necessary levers. Slowly, slowly, the hall began to fill with water. Meanwhile, I had two dwarves die of thirst! I hadn't noticed until it was too late, but we had run out of booze! A few more dwarves die of thirst, and before I knew it, we had a full-blown tantrum spiral! Dwarves being shot down in the dining hall, mothers punching their babies, and all other sorts of complete chaos broke out! To top it off, one of the very first things destroyed was the lever that operates the floodgates that drain the drowning hall, mucking up the whole project...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The tantrum spiral continued for a couple months. No dwarves were planting, brewing, or cooking; so the food stockpiles never had a chance to recover. No dwarves could spare any time to bury the bodies, or even remove them from the fort.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A caravan arrived simultaneously with a siege, and got massacred. With only 4 dwarves left, I figured 'What the hell...' and ordered my military to attack. A Swordsdwarf ran up, got his shield hand lopped off, then retreated. Then, a hammerdwarf came up, and just started obliterating this platoon of goblins. He didn't even get a scratch on him! He did this with the other two squads of goblins, routing the siege.

It's been a couple months since then, and he still just guards the front gate, trains occasionally, and sleeps. There's 1 other military dwarf still alive, and it's the one-armed swordsdwarf who was also just elected the mayor. He was conducting a meeting while sparring with my Hammerdwarf, NigelThornberry, even though there was no liason on the map. Perhaps he was conversing with the human ghost merchants who have begun following him?

The food and drink from the massacred caravan have been used up, and we haven't gotten any migrants. Nigel Thornberry guards the front gate, as a child runs in circles, starved, dehydrated, and being chased by a ghost. Nigel is oddly content, and hasn't had to eat or drink the whole time I've been watching him...

Yep, I think our eventual sole survivor is a Legendary Hammerdwarf Vampire.
