H&H is one of those games that you can't really do well at anymore. The lack of a skillcap, a tiny map, and a community that quite frankly sucks sweaty dodgeballs tends to ruin games.

Is the crummy LP system still in place? Y'know, the one with curios that breaks early-game flow like a baseball bat breaks people's kneecaps?

The devs got some incredibly bad advice from hangers-on within the H&H inner circle crowd. The same hangers-on continue to insist, even after Salem failed, that the current curio system tied to an uncapped skill tree is the best game mechanic ever devised.

Sad isn't it? Stubbornly stupid, too.

So basically, the game is killing itself while denying that.

Well its hard as fuck to get some items when starting out, and ALL joy is ruined when you get gangraped by russian clan who actually does not need these items because they have TOO MUCH OF THIS SHIT. Its so hard to find iron... So hard that I actually NEVER found it and came back alive.
Russians...
1v15 is not fun you know.

Well, Brodgar is always accepting people if you want to come play with us. ;-) We have got a central walled keep, but otherwise its personal plots as usual. It's kind of a sucky town, but sucky in a unique way. ;-)

As for the game, yeah I dunno. Maybe the devs will continue with their recent fixes and make things better, but yeah, it has some serious problems.

I guess the worst part is that new blood gets beaten out pretty quickly. Instead of lots of cool people coming and playing, we have the same old jerks murdering whoever comes along for laughs, and it just repeats itself every world.

We are only what, six, seven weeks into World 7? Already the average pop has dropped from like 1100 to 700 players. A video by a well known game reviewer went up a day or so ago and there has been a bit of a spike of new players, but most are guaranteed to quit, and they are probably wise to do so.

None of this is exactly helped by the distinctly racist teenager vibe on the forums, which the devs do nothing to discourage.

I'm making a game called "Innkeep!", where you run an inn set in a low-fantasy world and try to lighten your guests pockets. Forum topic here.

I'm thinking about joining, and I don't want to get raped again and again by those who have been playing for a long time, so, what should I do?

The alternative is you find a couple experienced and knowledgeable players to form up with and settle your own village, though this is a lot harder. As long as you get yeomanry as soon as possible you'll be fine and may perhaps only have to deal with people who purposefully spend thousands upon thousands upon their desires of banditry and wanton ultraviolence. Haven and Hearth is a lot easier than people make it out to be, if you have common sense and some knowledge of tactics and strategy to employ that is.

I would offer my services at this time but right about now I am on a Vampire: The Masquerade binge of sorts. Plus there is also the fact that I am allied with UristMcDwarf at this time despite my current bout of nigh-inactivity and thus would have to abandon my current alliance in order to support your own ventures. I think however that if one has faith in thyself they should do fine surviving on their own, just they and the alts that they use for the tasks which they themselves do not wish to risk life and limb of their main characters for. I recommend that people do this for mining, hunting, foraging and all acts of warfare as to preserve their own hide.

Its pretty easy to fend off small thieves, but not whole fucking russian syndicates which even if you one day find them using ranger skill (or whatever, the one which analyzes scents) you wont be able to do a single thing about them. I also like hermiting or playing with a small group of friends, not going to established village.

I agree that a hermitage or a small homestead with a smattering of friends is nice. I personally cannot stand established villages though I must say they are good for resources. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with Russians since World 5 and the Hinamizawa incident, but then again I'm settled out in the middle of nowhere near several abandoned claims and the ruins of one village which was raided quite some time ago. Also do forgive my previous post, I was drunk on sleep deprivation and thought I was a character from Vampire: The Masquerade for a good few hours.

The reduction of world sizes and the new LP system were two of the most stupid decisions in Haven and Hearth history...

Whoever thinks the new LP system is good needs a brain transplant.

It gimps new players and makes established groups untouchable.

Also the Russians would not be a problem if the big groups of players like goons didn't stir them up all the time. Every single time I got killed in H&H it was by English speaking players, usually goons.

I must have missed them making the worlds smaller. I thought there was a continuous drive for larger worlds from the creators?

June 24, 2013 - World 7 was expanded to 7x7 supergrids.
Outside of that I find no evidence that the world has been compressed in any way shape or form, and in fact find evidence of just the opposite. At my settlement I've seen perhaps maybe three other players my entire time there - two raiders with Rage who didn't take anything, and UristMcDwarf - and all together I've seen maybe eight people in all of World 7 - half of them from Bay 12 by the way. Compared to the player population I'd say that either everyone is spread out, I'm in the middle of nowhere, and/or the world wasn't compressed in any way, shape or form.
