OP is updated with the final status of everything, as well as the VP counts.

Final score tallies:
GreatWyrmGold - 18
Kashyyk - 23
PyroDesu - 27
Toaster - 30
evilcherry - 28
Dariush - 29

evilcherry wins! Although it was pretty close there at the end.

Dariush would have won, except that he had way too many unemployed colonists hanging around.

Toaster and Kashyyk, I think, suffered from food constraints. Another farm would have opened things up a good bit for you, although Toaster came close to winning as it is.

PyroDesu had a really good economy going there, and was close to filling up his colony. I think you'd have had a shot at winning if you'd rushed a colony fill to end the game just a few turns earlier. Hard to say for sure, though, since I wasn't tracking VPs at that point.

GreatWyrmGold...I think you just had kind of a muddled strategy for a while. Given where things stood near the end, you'd have benefited greatly from going for a Prison. That would have pushed you up 9 VP, and while you wouldn't have won you'd at least have been much closer to the scores of everyone else.

Thanks for playing, guys! This game gave me a lot of great info about how things play out, especially a 6 player game. I already have some rules changes in mind for next time.

Woo, second!

I had to change strategy a bit part-way through, and made a couple bad phase choices- though I did get lucky on food buys a couple times.

My original strategy was to focus on Advanced Machine Factories.  They are 7 VP for one build slot and one staffer.  The problem was I underestimated the effect of their high resource cost, as well as the hassle of getting Skilled colonists to staff them.  If I tried this again, I might do the same general strategy, except rushing Markets (A single goods means they're super cheap to build) and attempt to force an early end to the game.

Strangely, that's exactly what I intended to do before the end. It's just that they're 5 Basic Goodses.

Did anyone else notice before I did (I think Kashyyk realized right at the end) that Universities are much better than Markets to dump excess workforce in? Triple the VP and double the employment for double the cost and the same size.

Anyways, fourth place. Not bad, I never really expected to win (building a wonderful economy isn't quite the path to victory, though I might've been able to get Terraformers... but not have the workforce for them...)

Anyways, apart from our aborted first attempt, good game, you guys.

Yeah, Universities are great. However, in my revised rules they have an important point to them - You have to have a least a Skilled in there to get full points for Staffing. Here you were able to get away with putting two Unskilled in, which doesn't really make sense (All students and no teachers makes for a lousy education). That makes them better if you've got the resources and Skilled/Expert labor force, while Markets work well for really cheap building and using up Unskilled. Which I think is a good compromise.

Also, something that I think will help out people in Dariush's situation: The Reserved Colonist should be Optional. I think he'd have been in a better state if he didn't have quite so many excess people near the end and the colonists were more evenly distributed.

I'm not sure how that changes things. I mean, couldn't you reserve a colonist and then never take it now? What circumstances would lead you to not wanting to reserve a colonist?

Calling Colonization every turn to force endgame?

Why wouldn't you want to reserve a colonist for that situation?

Right now when you play Colonization you get a Reserved Colonist whether you like it or not.

Exactly this. Dariush was spamming Colonization to end the game quickly before evilcherry's science strategy overtook him too much. However, the fact that the current rules meant that doing so was giving him two colonists every phase instead of one really hurt him at the end. During most of the game, the reserve colonist is really nice because it lets you control what colonists you're getting to an extent regardless of turn order.

If Dariush had gotten a few less colonists and taken a turn to build and staff a University instead of just spamming Colonization, he would have won. If he'd taken that extra turn to build the University as things were he'd still have lost, but only by a point or two. So those extra colonists really did hurt him.

Assuming you have nowhere to stick those colonists, causing you large amounts of VP loss for unemployed colonists.

OH! I thought the reserved colonist replaced the unreserved one.

Ah. Nope, when you reserve a colonist the next time colonization happens you get both whatever colonist you'd normally get plus the reserved colonist. Obviously I need to make the rules on that a little clearer.

.....

You are quite right. My apologies.

That puts evilcherry at 28 VP.
