Well, it's been really fun guys. The end was kinda boring and tedious, but everything leading up to it was pretty exciting. I'll let you know if I can get FRAPs to cooperate with DosBox again, but if not I'll have to call this the end of the LP and move onto something else. Either way, thanks for all the help guys!

Thanks for doing this. MOO2 games do tend to end in drudgery, but they're fun up until that point.

If you do get FRPS working again, may I suggest that you install the 1.31 patch and try again? The AI is much smarter. There is an unofficial 1.4 patch, but it's mostly for multiplayer. 1.31 is the one you need.

That's the plan! Still no progress on the FRAPs front though. I'll try a full reinstall and hope that works.

Nice job! Can you link your new thing when you start it? I must watch. You are stronkest LP'er.

So, what are you thinking of going with this next time around? A more challenging set-up, I assume?

Let's Master Orion: FRAPS x DOSBOX (AKA Second game is go!)

Good news everybody! FRAPS now seems to love DOSBox, and the 1.31 patch seems to have taken perfectly fine. So the second game is set to go!

As before I'll let you folk decide what the galaxy will be like, and what traits we'll have. If you decide to give me some decent racial traits, I'll go with Impossible difficulty. If you give me some stupid traits (Repulsive and Uncreative ho!) then I'll stick to Hard.

Hmm. Maybe go the opposite of last time and do a strategy that focuses on foot soldier. Get Assault Shuttles as well and gather a fleet of captured alien vessels! Fun way to get new technologies, especially when you manage to capture an Antaran vessel.

Maybe go similar to the Bulrathi and take Ground attack bonus and High Gravity. Hmm, maybe with Subterranean as well if we can swing it? That'd be interesting.

I'm partial to a low pop growth penalty personally, since it's easy to counteract with cloning centers. I just take a low production planet with good population cap like a swamp or ocean, give it a Cloning Center, and then stick it on Housing to grow population to ship out to the other planets.

Last game was a little too easy, but it should be better patched. Here's my vote:

Galaxy:
Huge, 8 opponents, hard difficulty, average tech, mineral rich, yes antarans and random events.

Race:
Repulsive, subterranean dictatorship, with whatever else. take the Elerian portrait and play them as feminists who've succeeded in killing all the males of their species, and are bitter and lonely and taking it out on the galaxy.

I say go with a small galaxy, still with the maximum number of opponents.

Overcrowding makes the early game much more intense as you're likely to have someone declaring war on you very quickly, sometimes as soon as you colonise your second system.

Problem is that games like that only last a couple hours. He'd do one update and it would be over.

Does the AI ever attempt to attack Antares? I have never seen it build a dimensional portal, even when very advanced? (It will however attack the Guardian and conquer Orion if you leave it long enough.)

My suggestion is: don't be repulsive again as you did that last time. Play an uncreative race so you have to trade for the good techs or use what the RNG gives you. Also, use the Silicoid race picture so you don't have the perfect slave race waiting to be conquered. (Don't worry, Klackons, Trilarians and Meklars make pretty good slaves too.)

A couple of quick test games reveals that the difficulty has significantly increased, as the AI is both better and cheats more balantly (there's no way you can have six colonies and a goddamn tech lead at the same time). As such I don't think I'll be able to swing for a race focusing purely on ground/boarding combat. I'll try a couple of tests with non-Repulsive and Uncreative, but otherwise I'll try some kind of Subterranean set up.
