Our soldiers somehow manage to take some Silicoid technology, despite none of them actually being in Cryslon.

Looked to me like that was from mind controlling Cryslon III.

Indeed. I just find it odd and silly that they acquire the tech despite the fact that we have no troop transports and we took over the colony through MIND CONTROL.

How so?  Obviously, the mind controlled scientists willingly turned over their research data.

But I'm guessing you're referring to the fact that the game says "our soldiers captured tech X", even providing a briefing from one of our soldiers.

If you can keep them under control, the psilon seems great for tech farming by spying. Just keep a them on a planet or tow. Or can you you conquer them and use their racial bonus for research?

Yes, the Psilon research bonus belongs to the scientists not the leader. Normally it's a bad idea to mix races on a planet due to the morale penalty. But our custom Klackons are still unification government, I think. Which means they ignore morale. Are we looking at a future where all Psilons get to enjoy being incredibly nerdy under the benevolent guidance of their Klackon overlords?

Sure, but the more important consideration is simply removing them from the game, since they're the only credible threat.

I wonder if we chose an excessively easy set of picks. We might be halfway to a win already. Absorb either the Alkari or Mrrshan, consolidate/terraform/reproduce, then absorb the Psilon homeworld, and it's pretty much game over. We could be there in 100 turns or less. The rest is just mop-up.

Cool, this is making me want to fire up MOO2 again, it's been way too long since I played it.  Also, if you really want to be a prick, especially with telepath, the anti-missile rockets are one of my favorite techs.  You can build a batch of cheap fast ships with nothing but anti-missiles and abuse tactical combat to sail them up to space stations and board them, using the anti-missiles to absorb all the fire from the space station.   With small ships it takes several before all the enemy troops are gone but then whee - free space station!  I *think* then the space station can mind control the planet even if you didn't bring a cruiser.

You can also board enemy ships but iirc they have to be immobile.  Until you get assault shuttles, then it really is game over - anti-missiles + assault shuttles = lots of captured enemy ships *that you can use in combat immediately* (because of telepathic) and then later scrap for yummy cash.

Ahh, fond memories of abuses :D

Every time i capture an enemy station, it disappears at the end of battle.

The soldiers just like to take credit for things. They got bored.

Pretty much, yeah.

That was my plan, actually. The Psilons scientists get +2 to research, so we should cruise through the tech tree faster when we finally conquer them.

Nah, we didn't have an excessively easy set of picks. We were just really lucky to stumble into the Silicoids so early. Unification + Tolerant + Lithovore + Mineral Rich Start is an exceedingly deadly combination to have. Though we if do wipe the board so quickly then I'll simply start another game, perhaps on Impossible difficulty.

Once you're sufficiently comfortable with the tech tree, playing with uncreative can be quite fun. You can still get most techs through trade, war and espionage, but it makes things a bit more interesting if you're used to taking the "best" tech at every decision point.

I think my first win for MOO2 was with the default Klackon, although it was a small galaxy and an election win.

I generally have an easier time playing as the Psilons. However, I had a way easier time playing as them in MOO than MOO2. Then again, I'm still not entirely good with the MOO2 system.

Of course, in MOO, I also fighter-spammed a fair number of ships, and left most worlds as nothing but radioactive voids after defeating them (every one of the 1000*X fighters carried 1 nuke on them).

Everybody has an easier time playing as them. Or at least playing with their portrait. They are absolutely the most dangerous of all the races because of their crazy research abilities and consequently their tendency to show up and say things like "Oh, those are nice neutron blasters you have. Too bad I'm completely damage-immune to them because I have double your shield tech. By the way, meet my shield piercing phasers."

I've always found the most threatening AI race, at least on harder levels is the Sakkra. Never mind the research penalty for feudalism - their population normally outnumbers everyone else by 4:1 by the time you meet them, and having four times as many scientists pretty much negates the penalties.

Of course it doesn't always work out like that - sometimes they all end up as slaves to the Mrrshans or something (or even better, they're your neighbours and they end up as your slaves before they have time to expand out of control.)

And of course for being annoying, nothing beats the Darloks.

I was just trying out impossible difficulty with a tech focused custom humans.  I run into the silicoids and they have effing plasma blasters around the time me and the rest of the galaxy have shield three.  Impossible is effing impossible.
