    Verator Sanguinus Akroxis

You stand up from your meditative trance -the Prince's way of resting. You look around your chamber, and you see intricate designs on the wall and drapes. The air is air-conditioned, the smell of food coming from the mess hall outside. You wear your beautiful clothes, a mix of vibrant colors and designs of gold thread. The doors open and you are greeted by menservants outside. They kneel and offer small samples of today's meal to see which they would prepare for you. You order them to pick whichever they think is best and they scurry off.

You go down the hall to see the Captain. The long hallway is adorned with paintings of long-passed heroes and beautiful scenery. Some were by the artists on-board the Invictus, others taken from the great mansions of Urbiventia. Either way, you could not care less for their petty needs. You finally meet the Captain, he salutes and greets you back, while his Guardsmen kneel behind him.

"Ave, Sol Akroxis. We are well on our way to the Augur System. It will take us a few months to reach that distance, but as long as we stay on course, we will arrive safely. Although, a distress signal has been issued from a noble on Atrox IV. It is a few days from here. The noble, Governor Aelius, is dealing with a renegade group of extremists who seek to overthrow him from his seat. He is not doing well, but helping him might grant us some allies,

Atrox IV is also a very important planet for the Commons. We cannot afford to lose it to rebels, and the Sector Guard are not near. If you want to help, go ask Guardsman Julius for battle plans,"
    Geron says.

    What now?

    Alsandair Domhein

You get up from the training simulator, interrupted by a message from Head Guardsmen Gerrson. You take the head gear off and walk down the hall to meet him. You arrive at the barracks, and all the men stop training and salute. Gerrson is at the front, training them. He walks toward you and salutes.

"Ave. We've spotted an HA craft nearby. They have just left a nearby system after trading and are going towards our direction. They are not well protected; they only have two convoys, a small cruiser, and a corvette. My men and I are more than capable of destroying them. They seem to be carrying some expensive equipment. Rumors from that system suggests that they have a minor artifact with them and are travelling quickly and quietly to hide it.

What would you like us to do sir?"

The consorts are there to give you advise, and they could help in the fight.

    Pal-Palke

You leave the worship chamber after your daily rites are done, and are escorted out by Guardsmen. The Engineers greet you outside, and would like a word with you.

"Greetings. We are here to report good news. We have located an artifact in a nearby system. It is said that it can boost a ships speed and reduce fuel consumption. If we could reverse-engineer it to let us cross Sectors, we might pave the way for our fleets to reach the Inner. It is said that the artifact is guarded by pirates and they are using it to use for hit-and-run attacks.

These pirates are a menace. We do not know if these are Outer Pirates, since their ships seem more advanced than what our savages can handle. They might be from an outlying system from the Commons, and they might have used the artifact to arrive here and prey on us. You must deliver the Emperor's wrath on these brigands, and stop them.

A small group of them is coming nearby. We might capture them and interrogate them for information on where the artifact is and how to use it."

    Rolar Gatts

You are interrupted in your study room by the engineers knocking on the door. They are being followed by slaves on leashes, and they carry equipment and continuously brush and comb them as they walk. You finish up on your studies and let them in. One of them approaches and greets you, followed by a triage of slaves.

"Ave. We are very pleased to inform you that through our tests we have developed a hypothetical theory on bridging the gaps between Sectors. It is eerily similar on how the Ancient humans crossed the entire galaxy, although our way is much more plausible.

It involves a machine that could push craft through Sectors, and a receiving machine to catch them as they enter. They would not be easy to build or maintain, honestly, but it is our best bet. We will need funding, and many nobles here in the nearby systems might be willing to aid us if we gain their favor. Considering that you are a Prince, that wouldn't be difficult,"
    he grins.

"Anyway, Governor Ulysses has been looking for help in escorting him to another system. He is not the most wealthy or respectable, but he will be paying enough to jumpstart our research. The job won't be that difficult anyway.

"That is indeed good news. Let me ask the stars about it, first. Perhaps they shall reveal auspicious things."

Pal-Palke takes a moment to commune with the stars.

Perform a star-communing, ask the question "Who are these pirates?"

A grins slowly spreads on Alsandair's face, acute canines bared much like a prowler would do upon finding its prey. Even then, he shoots a glance at his attending consorts, intent on hearing their opinion of the matter. The possibility of trap or trickery exists, no matter how remote some may consider it, and listening to the advices of the ones near him may prove to be useful. There is a reason why he has taken these people in.

"What is your opinion?" he asks with a gravely growl.

The shadows beside Alsandair seems to move of their own accord. Calliyo And'r delicate, yet forceful voice seems to come from nowhere, but Alsandair can hear her as clearly as if she were whispering into his ear.

"If it is a trap, they would have set better bait, I think.

I am more interested in where they intend to take this artifact. We could follow them and divine their destination...perhaps even find a cache of similar technology. We could be in a position to judge any threat before we engaged, as well.

That being said, slaughtering them, and interrogating the survivors could yield the same result."

    There was a tentative pause.

Action: Calliyo thinks logically about trade routes and such-where could the enemy vessel leaving at this heading be going?

Akroxis felt his face twist to a sneer. Animal politics. There was no way to avoid them, he supposed.

'We may have time for a detour,' he said. The Captain had already stopped flinching at his inhuman, reveberating voice. Pity. He'd have to find another way to set him off balance.

'What do these rebels want? What is their strenght, their support? Tell me everything about them and the governor that I can use.'

The Prince stares a nearby bas-relief panel depicting a naval victory over a Hollenzern battleship, his steely gaze slowly drifting towards the talking shadow. "You do have a point, although its destination is likely to be  better protected than the crafts. Intercepting them now and interrogating the survivors seems to be our best option, although trying to find out where it is heading without any need for interrogation would be preferrable."

"Head Guardsman Gerrson, prepare the men for combat." he says, expecting the opinion of his other consort.

Prepare for combat, seizing an advantageous position whilst the enemies are unaware.

    "Travel light and travel quick."

A figure from nearby moves into the lighting, dressed in light clothing along with the insignia of Domhein Industries, "Consort Eri Rei reporting for duty, Captain Alsandair! The plan is sound and infallible; there are no wrongs I can see.

"May I go into combat with your men?"

The shadow seems to regard Eri with open suspicion, but voices no opinion. There is merely a birdlike shuffling motion reminiscent of a pen making a note on a clipboard, quick as the blink of an eye.

Alsandair turns to Eri to face the shorter female with strange triangular-shaped ears atop her head and a tail that was very different from his other consort's - to start with, it had fur on it aside from an orange color which provided a noticeable conflict with her tan skin color. It is also worth noting that while the purple-skinned and smaller Calliyo is the one with the more distinctive appearance amidst the crew of animals, the fox-eared woman was the one that made the Prince wonder if some kind of procedure for physical alteration had been performed on her.

"You have my permission to enter combat.Try to avoid dying, Doc." he answers, mindful of his shadowy consort's movements. A few of the men probably wondered why their Prince seems to have a knack for recruiting animals so different from them. The answer was nothing short of obvious, of course - talent. Both were talented and promising from his viewpoint and he had interests that would go well in hand with that.

"Thank you sir! I'll choose not to die, sir!"

Eri saluted the Captain, making sure everything was due to protocol. Arm steady, shoulder level, and straight face.

In truth, while being a consort, she was thrown into a wholly new world which differed on all aspects from her own, being one of the inhabitants of an Outer rim technological planet. The customs, dress code and even day to day activities was quite a culture shock to her that she made sure to follow everything in the manual given to her--meaning to the period and dot.

She glanced over to the shadowy figure and give the tiniest of nods, as if calmed by the presence of another being, and headed over towards the Head Guardsman.

Get to the medical bay and acquire some tool which I could use to 'see' how healthy someone is, before preparing for boarding combat.

    Verator Sanguinus Akroxis

You question the Captain about the rebels and the Governor. The Captain calls for his lieutenant to fetch his files. The lieutenant returns with a file containing papers and small notes labeled Atrox IV. The Captain takes you with him to his office and you both sit down. He opens the files and reads from a few pages.

"The rebels-called the Ferus Filios-are a group of extremists who want the lower man to rise up and overthrow the unequal government. They are very well-armed, but we do not know who supplies them. They number near a million, but they are scattered throughout the planet. Their leader is merely called "Genus" and is in hiding. Their members are disguised as normal civilians, but when they publicly rise up, they wear red masks with a red armband on their right arm.

They've taken over Vilius City, a small city near the capital. They have burnt down multiple government buildings and assassinated multiple important government members. The Governor, Aelius, has blackmailed his way to the cabinet. He has served multiple terms in office by eliminating his rivals. His personal guard and secret police force collect "extra tithes" from the lower class to keep them lower class. He's backed by the higher artists and warriors.

Other than that, we know little else about the rebels or Aelius' secret agendas. What do you want us to do?"

    Alsandair Domhein

You plan with your consorts in your War Room, and after a while you leave and order the Head Guardsman to prepare the men and ships for combat. Eri also accompanies the Guards and arms herself alongside them. She takes an advanced, modified Starfighter and leads a squad of fifteen men. She also takes an Analyser from the medical-bay.

Meanwhile, Calliyo thinks about the trade routes and possible areas of where the enemy could be heading. (10+2) She recalls a particular trade route nearby where the craft could be heading. You command the fighters to flank the enemy as they approach, and for the cruisers to take the sides and provide cover for the fighters.

The HA craft close in, and the plan falls into place. (8+3-14) Eri tries to get her men around the HA craft sneakily, but the craft sees them and opens fire. (4-10) The fighters all manage to dodge the ion blasts and reach the back of the craft. The cruisers open fire in retaliation at the cruiser and corvette (17-1) and the enemy cruiser's shields are brought down. (11-16) The corvette, however, manages to hold its own. The corvette fires back, but the cruiser is too busy bringing its shields back up. (17-15) The corvette gets the shields lowered, but they are brought back up quickly.

What orders do you relay to your men?

    Pal-Palke

You decide to go to your Worship Chamber to commune with the stars. You meditate for a long time, and finally, you feel it. (18-15) They give you a feeling inside the back of your mind, and you try your best to understand what they mean. (18+4-15) You understand fully. These pirates are savages who found the relic on a their planet. They then managed to steal their Chieftain's craft, which was much more advanced than the others, even those of other Chieftains.

They then used that craft to raid other nearby system, outrunning all the Emperor's Craft, earning the name "Outrunners". They only have one craft, as bringing others would just slow them down. The stars tell you that they will come nearby in approximately a week, not well-armed as they merely wish to hide their recently stolen goods in an asteroid. You could set up an ambush for them in an asteroid field where they are headed to.

Pal-Palke stands up, awash with great understanding. The stars, they were helpful today. A good omen for the servants of the Emperor. She heads back to the Captain.

"Captain, I have questioned the stars and they have answered. Truly fate smiles upon us - our enemies are but savages using a ship that is not rightfully theirs. They are the Outrunners, and they will be here in a week, only a single poorly-armed craft in their possession, seeking to hide their ill-gotten gains in an asteroid. We can set up an ambush in a nearby asteroid field and catch them unaware and unprepared then take whatever relic powers these heathens' efforts to run from the Emperor's authority, both fulfilling our mission objectives and keeping order in the realm."

Explain to Captain Kur-Karne the facts of the matter.

I see. Contact the Governor, tell him we are at his service. In the meantime have the men prepare and order Guardsman Mark to put them through their paces. We leave at once. I would also have a report on the status of the Palcon's systems, as well as our holds. Ensure we have enough supplies for the trip.

Now.. Tell me more of this theory of yours..

Accept the Governor's offer. Order the men to begin training at the barracks. Find out more about the warp theory, and what we'll need to begin tentative research.
