It's a complex game, but in saying that, it reminds me of D&D 3.5 which is also complex but it also means that you can do A LOT of stuff within the rules.

So I've had these Shadowrun books sitting on my computer, just accumulating virtual dust for a while now, and I thought "Why not? Bay12 likes fantasy and technology, they should love Shadowrun!"

Shadowrun takes place in the year 2070. Humanity has gone through a major change: The Awakening. Suddenly, children all over the world were born with certain deformities. They were later referred to as elves, dwarves, orks, goblins, etc. Magic had also returned to the world, granting several millions of people the ability to cast spells and commune with animal spirits. On the flipside, technology has seen a gigantic growth since the awakening. Cyber-limbs, augmented reality, flying cars and advanced AI all made an appearance soon after.
The United States is no more, and in its place several new nations arose. Megacorporations run just about everything, and they even have several city-sized "arcologies", where employees live and work in a self-sustaining steel pyramid.When these megacorps need dirty work done, they turn to the Shadowrunners. You are a Shadowrunner. A criminal for hire, (even if you may or may not think of it that way) who specialized in dealing with corporate dirtywork. You may use your advanced hacking skills to get information from rival corporations, or maybe you use your mastery of combat magic to eliminate certain indivduals, for a modest price. In any case, you are part of a team. Most Shadowrunners work in teams, and you bring a certain skill to that team that nobody else can match.
Your usual base of operations is the Seattle metroplex. Over the years, Seattle has been expanding, and that makes it prime real-estate for the ever-growing megacorps. Renraku has chosen downtown as the site for their new arcology, and Aztechnology has a pyramid in the city as well. Over the course of the game, Seattle will grow and change depending on your choices and actions. It is already a bustling center of commerce, and home to some pretty shady dealings, if you know where to look. How will that change during your time here? Only time will tell.

In Shadowrun, your stats and skills determine how many d6s you roll during a skill check. The total does not matter, however, but how many times you roll a 5 or 6 does. any time you roll a 5 or 6, it's called a hit, and the number of hits you get determines your degree of success. If half or more of your dice come up 1s, you get a glitch. A glitch is basically a fumble, and while it doesn't necessarily mean you've failed a roll, something bad will happen regardless. If you roll a glitch, and get zero hits, this is a critical glitch, meaning something very bad happens. You want to avoid crit glitches.
I will be in charge of all rolls. Why? well, for several reasons:

• It's easier for me to keep track of who's rolled what and when.
• It minimizes the potential for cheating. (Not that I don't trust you guys, of course.)
• Actions/combat are more streamlined, and players won't know what will happen with an action until I post the outcome.

Don't worry though, you'll still get to create and maintain a character, as detailed in The Characters.
When combat starts, all PCs and NPCs involved will roll initiative, and the initiative list will be posted.
Players will then have 24 hours to post a combat action, or risk being skipped over. Once everyone has posted an action, or 24 hours has passed, actions will occur in the init order, regardless of order of posting. This helps move the combat along swiftly, so that we don't have month long combat sessions.

You have two options when it comes to creating a character, you can either 1. contact me so I can lend you the rulebook and you can create a character yourself, or 2. give me a general outline of your character (name, race, class, etc.) and I'll deal with all the numbers. Either way, your general skills and equipment will be posted in the thread and updated as needed.

So, if you're interested or have any questions, drop me a PM via the forums, Skype (jessicat263) or Steam, (AlleeCat) and we'll get your character set up and ready to play. There is no minimum character requirement for the game to start, but I will be putting a cap of 8 players on the game, as any more than that gets a tad hectic.

Race: Orc
Looks: Standing at just under 6 and a half foot tall, Hakron has a stocky and solid build, short cut black hair, a dull brown skin tone, small tusks and has a slightly unsettling look of blankness in his eyes.
Specialties: I'm going for a offensive minded kind of character, but with a bit of support to help others and get where he needs to be. He should be focused mostly on ranged attacks, but isn't afraid to mix it up in melee, which means he needs to hit hard, be hard to hit and move quickly, as well as be able to take a few good hits. He should be somewhat flexible, in order to adapt to whatever is thrown at him, and he will be making good use of whatever gear he can get his hands on.
General background: He'll come off as somewhat of a lone wolf due to him going off on his own from time to time, and his detached manner of just maiming some poor target from another rooftop/balcony at long range, but he'll get where he's needed and get the job done. He tends to blend into the crowd where possible, and this is reflected in his living conditions too.

General background: Nalmar worked as a secruity contractor for ten years, working for most of the major secruity firms and even a few government jobs do to his exceptional skills with code, and his inherent abilites as a Technomancer. After a job gone wrong working with the local government he went into hiding and started working as a part time informant and tech support for criminals.

Concept: Guinevere is simply a doctor who'd rather use her skills in a more profitible business, rather than adhering to the strict environment of privatized healthcare.
General background: Guinevere had originally worked in a "Black Clinic", healing wounds with her magic and medicine expertise combined no matter what it was, nor how it was dealt. The clinic ran well for several years without failure or death, until they made one mistake, one patient dying of multiple gun wounds during surgery. The patient was a higher-ranking member of a gang known as the "Thunder Boys". Despite the eccentric name, they torched the clinic, forcing those who worked inside to flee, provided they survived the initial attack.
Now, half a year later, Guinevere has gotten more up close and personal to the criminal underground, treating wounds usually right as they happen.

General background: Worked as security for a minor corp for a few years, doing both defensive and offensive operations . was relatively well-liked but got fired after a screw-up made keeping him around politically unviable. Still has ties to several former colleagues who can occasionally supply him with minor contraband or hard-to-get material. Minor enthusiast of the arts, especially old paintings.

Yes, 2070 is the default 4th ed year. Don't expect that to line up with any dates in supplemental scenarios, however. The only canon here is what's in the main and Seattle sourcebooks. The rest is up to me and you to decide.

Fun fact with a hidden bump: FASA (the company that originally created Shadowrun) originally tried to have the Sixth World keep up with our own, one year per year. This later broke down, but it explains the discrepancies.
