Noble demands, do they even exist in the .34?
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:27:57 am »

I've seen exactly zero demands made by nobles when playing the newest version. The amount of the demands is specified in the raws, so they should be there, right? Not even my king made any demands. Just mandates and requires.

Are they broken or is there just something odd with my games?

I think I'm playing the most recent and yes, demands do happen, but far rarer then mandates.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Is there any way to make them more frequent? Maybe by modding the demand amount to ridiculously high? I'll try.

I really miss 40d nobles. They were REAL nobles, migrating to your fort, doing nothing and asking ridiculous things. Would it be possible to mod the nobles to be like 40d ones again?

I have found that they make demands when they are mildly disgruntled, but not neglected. Leave all their requirements in yellow, specifically in regard to quality, and give them NOTHING that is of their materials of preference.

This will keep them at "Fine" and "Content", since they will get bad thoughts from conducting meetings in bad settings, and sleeping in a "poor" room, but coupled with happiness generating goodness in the rest of the fortress, will keep them sane.  They will then start slamming out the mandates, and if you are slow on meeting those mandates (wait for them to turn yellow, or red first) on a routine basis, they start to get peevish, and will start making demands.

That's been my experience anyway.

I think they only make demands if they have metal preferences.

This, I never give my mayor any decent quarters (elected nobles, pfft so plebeian. Real nobles are not elected by the rabble) and he makes demands for shit all the time, and I always ignore him, and he is always just on the edge of having a tantrum.
