Gender  != Sex. Simple. They're describing two very different things.

No, they aren't. At least not the ones were talking about here. Labels convey membership and identity based on properties of the object in question. Adjectives can convey quite a bit other than that. Simply by dint of the ability of adjectives to be relative and hold degrees of applicability, they are quite different. Labels are binary and exclusive by convention and definition, while adjectives as a whole are not. Now adjectives can certainly be used as labels no question there, but the statement that adjectives ARE labels is outright false. 
If you aren't following that here is an example.
"That (animal) is a quick thing" is a label without being an adjective while."That is a quick (animal)" is an adjective without being a label and holds a very different meaning even though it is superficially similar.

I think as far as mental disorders go, the big change that will sweep through and change psychology is going to be when they realize what the taxonomists and other scientists realized years and years ago - classifying things by their most obvious features is a damn good way to get things incredibly wrong. Reality tends to be complicated, and obvious features tend not to the be the important ones if you're seeking a meaningful understanding. A bat is not a bird and a whale is not a fish, despite how "obvious" it is that they are, and for damn good reason. Psychology in specific, and good chunks of the medical profession in general, have a real problem with this.

One positive thing: Otherkin hasn't showed up once. First time I've seen a trans* discussion on this forum without otherkin being brought up in quite a while. :D The same fucking thing happens with that, and it's egregious.

Wrong! Something being new or old is not indicative of good. Remember evolution works with mass die-offs of things that were just inferior enough.


In the small term, evolution can produce inferior versions of something. It's very simple, a unknown trait attracts females say to some new hindersome trait, and they breed more. But that doesn't make it better, and indeed if it gets to a point where that weaker trait matters, the species dies.


Remember that entire species die, but life marches on. Evolution is a long term thing, not every generation it better then the previous. So I am equally capable of blaming the lactose-intolerant for the Fall of Man as implying they give new powers.

You can argue about how this label does this and that label does that, but when it comes down to it most people are just what they are and don't really care what other people are, and have too much other stuff going on in their lives to put more thought into it than that.

Cisgender is the opposite of transgender, it means you identify with the gender that you are born with.

I actually really like the term 'cissexual' and related terms, because I feel it makes 'transexual' less of an alternative from what is normal, and more of an option that is also normal. I mean granted transexuals still aren't that common, but I don't think something needs to be common to be socially normal. Not many people actually own birds as pets, but it is normal.
Framing it as 'cissexual or transexual' might not be the most accurate reflection of reality, but I feel a lot better about it than 'normal or transexual'
