What should we tell the mountainhome?

A - Long live the King, Baron up and join the mountainhome for good.
B - Long live our own ends, distance the Fort from the mountainhome for good.
If both votes are tied, RNG decides. A vote placed here will be strategically wasted.

Heh.  That's pretty freaking awesome, all things considered...  When i read about the clusterfuck that was Gibbon, I was all like "heh, slaughter-fest, neat" until I realized that Grom was a Marksdwarf on active duty ;P  Speaking of, how close am I to Legendary Marksdwarf right now?
Adequate Marksdwarf, there's a lot of shooting left to go. Most deaths were speardwarves this time, perhaps on account of speardwarves making up the bulk of the army - marksdorf casualties tend to only pile up in Amberfortunes when someone's shooting back at them. You're fine for now :P

Note to self: avoid sticking a bayonet to my crossbow.  I'm far more likely to die that way.

Out of curiosity, have I grown attached to my crossbow yet?  DO marksdorfs even GET attached to weapons?  I wouldn't know, none of my forts ever make it to the point where I actually need an army...  Except for that one time where zombies attacked while I was still trying to get farms set up.  That was fun.

It just keeps getting better and better. Glad to see you're still updating.

What kind of fighter is Trif? And does he still have his fancy hat?

Are you sure you don't want to transfer to a speardwarf squad? :P

I don't know. My current Fort with an abundance of elite marksdwarves and named weapons doesn't have any named crossbows. Maybe if a Marksdwarf bludgeons people to death with his crossbow instead of shooting with it he'll name it.

Axedorf, with a fancy hat.

And a fancy axe.

Can I ask for the weapon of choice of my dwarf? And renew request to claim the Cotton Candy Longsword? (How do I know it is a longsword? Clairvoyance.)

...How did you do this?

Though in hindsight, I did give the save out.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A second round of insanity is gripping the trenches, with so far 3 having gone insane.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A tundra Titan explosively died after launching itself into the trenches.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Mayor Coldbones was nearly assassinated in his sleep after one of the command Bunker's guards went berserk. Marksdwarves from nearby squads intervened in a showdown that lasted 3 days, and ended with 2 Dwarves heavily injured (but otherwise not crippled). The Marksdwarf injured tried rushing the berserk guard, and only just managed to make it back to the trenches after being shot in the kidney by a bolt (the remaining bolt just went over the trench as he fell down). The Marksdwarves traded bolts, and the fight conclusively ended when the berserk guard was flanked from behind and surrounded.

There are now 2 Forgotten Beasts in the depths, the obituary will be updated when the fights are concluded.

I know you haven't posted in half a month but I've just caught up on this thread and I must say, it's awesome. Would you perhaps be so kind as to Dorf me as the fort's first Hammerdwarf if he's available or has yet to arrive?

Of course! Updates have lagged because of computer issues [battery melting] overlapped with real life events that demand my attention. Apologies for yet another hiatus, I haven't killed this project just yet :P

BATTEREY melted?  But I thought it was aquifer-powered?  (My apologies for the lame pun, I can't even remember which Fort it was part of >.<)

We are still watching this, so feel free to take your time and update us once Amberfortunes gets going once more!

Once the weekend is around, I shall attempt to try and recover the world save from the previous computer. Nothing but the battery and the charger port is broken, so it should be possible.

I have hammerdwarves all right, but I think it's best to wait until after the Fort's a bit more stable before I begin Dwarfing. I kept trying to find a suitable hammerdwarf, but most of them I find are either insane, miserable or lying in the halls of Gibbon bleeding everywhere.
This might take a while.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Alongside the usual insanity in the hospital [with the only casualty of note being a suturer who was killed in line of duty by an axedwarf patient], there was a riot in the boozepile after several tantrums and berserk dwarves happened. I stopped counting after 5 Dwarves died and several more were injured, doesn't really matter how many lose it when you've got 150 soldiers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Firebeast attacked Amberfortunes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It crashed through the Eastern barricades with little resistance, stopping to set a recruit on fire along the way.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
While it busied itself with the recruit and the barricades, an army assembled in the command bunker.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A possessed dwarf created an awesome bed whilst this was going on.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The fire, the Titan's dead fire parts or a mix of the two melted parts of the ice wall. Considering how the command bunker and the above ground amber vault is entirely made up of ice, this should make defence... Interesting. Marksdwarf Ral scored the killing blow with a crossbow bolt. There was also an attack by a forgotten beast that failed to kill anything of note, slain after 16 pages of beating with a blow from Macedwarf Unib's morningstar to the lower body, tearing it in half. There are roughly 9 fights started every week between Dwarves, excluding berserk Dwarves. Everyone except the desensitized military elite are miserable. Three children have gone missing. Anything else left to say?

*EDIT
Yep, minor ambush from macegoblins:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

*EDIT X2
Another ambush from speargoblins. Ambushes are getting more and more frequent that I probably won't bother reporting them unless they do something special or come during a special happening, though there are some things to note [in that one Dwarf just survived getting their skull cracked by a mace and Ms. Willsauce is in hospital for a broken hand]. Four goblins were captured on the Eastern barricades, 1 macegoblin and 3 speargoblins. What should be done with them?

Cage them up, release them in case of Forgotten Beast attack?  Maybe try to let them breed, create our own tribe of Goblin lackeys to throw at the enemy like the cannon fodder they are?

Although entertainment of Amberfortune's warriors are rather... low priority, the captured goblins should be caged up and released in Amberfortune's very own colosseum, where they (and other captured prisoners) will be pitted against wild animals and beasts, to be torn apart savagely.

This fort is awesome! Posting to watch.

We are currently three turns in, and the main hall is coated in blood, intestines and random corpses. There's a huge pile of 3000 items made of human body parts in a corner and remaining members of the staff of the museum are, as I type this, being slowly choked to death by one of our adventurers.

Dwarf me as Flame, a marksdwarf, and stick me on the turn list.
