Poll

What should we tell the mountainhome?

A - Long live the King, Baron up and join the mountainhome for good.
B - Long live our own ends, distance the Fort from the mountainhome for good.
If both votes are tied, RNG decides. A vote placed here will be strategically wasted.

The [PET] tag allows females of a species to breed regardless of marital status. For all theoretical purposes, the rodent man repopulation center is fully capable of becoming reality. Coincidentally, that strange new house nears completion down by the reindeer den...

Kivish has got back on his feet and is back to speardwarf training while his wrist is still infected.
Muscle medicine appears to be highly effective.

a or b?
If a, let the Dorf elections begin.

On the one hand, it's awesome that we're increasing in status.  On the other hand, we don't have any actual buildings...  I vote B, personally.

I vote b, it is an option taken less often so it will be more interesting.... on the other hand the king will never arrive... but no stupid mandates!

Temporarily rejected the offer until consensus is reached. If we reject the offer; we will no longer have the ability to influence the contents of the trade caravans. Accept the offer, we will have to bear the burden of greater nobles appearing.

I vote for a - let us make a frozen mountain home!

I'd like to poke around the save to find someone with some crazy reasonably fulfillable preferences to nominate though.

But Amberfortunes was meant to be a semi-permanent military camp, not a town!

If I'm outvoted (seems likely at this point), I'd like to propose Grom for Baroness-ification.

Let us build a palace of amber behind the labyrinth of blood-soaked ice trenches! The no constructions rule serves its purpose in forcing Loud Whispers to weaponize his awesomeness, but we shouldn't let it hold us back.

It's not holding us back, it's selecting to pursue an alternate path, one much less often attempted by mere mortal Overseers!  Seriously, there are scads of Forts that eventually become Capitals (at which point, by the way, you ALSO lose the ability to determine what comes in with the caravan), but how many are there that willfully choose to turn away from the authority of the Mountainhomes?

Accidentally reset the votes >_>

In any case, both arguments I feel are pretty good. I'll leave this to the poll to decide.

Being the mountainhome doesn't necessarily mean we will have to give up our ways; I think it'd be kind of amusing to have the capital of the whole nation be just a patch of miserable, creviced tundra atop which speardwarves chase reindeer around and cover everything in blood. Although I suggested the amber opal palace, we need not display it (if we build it at all), but rather we should incorporate it into the ravage, building-less landscape.

Also, have there been any forgotten beasts yet, Loud Whispers?

If there were, you would be able to hear the panic.
The rodent couple have been chained up in Amberfortune's first house and I've also been playing with the notion of arming them. Of course, arming them is normally impossible, but were I to make them innately novice abushers they would all pick up crossbow and quiver - making them more effective and increasing their chances of survivability.

Here's hoping.

An unusually large percentage of the Fort's skilled soldiers are marksdwarves. I am unsure why.

I am disappointed by the number of elite wrestlers in Amberfortune.

They're emulating their hero, Grombardrim, of course!

Also, I'm glad that the threat of my Baroness-cy swayed someone from the Dark Side ^_^
