Ambusher skill for military
« on: June 27, 2013, 05:29:30 pm »

Quick question: Does the ambusher skill do anything for military units? I know that it is useful for hunters to get closer to their prey unnoticed but military always seems to be storming towards the enemy with the sublety of a bulldozer. If I just want to use my military to hunt, should i rather invest my points somewhere else?

How do you want your military to hunt? I assume you mean the time honored tradition of having your troops storm around the surface killing anything they can catch. If thats the case, no don't bother with ambusher. If you want your marksdwarves to hunt in their time off, then maybe. I don't think ambusher is used for miltary units under any circumstance other than off-duty hunting.

It works the other way round really. Being a military unit for a while is good for a hunter, because it makes them less likely to be flattened by dangerous wildlife. Unfortunately, the lack of a shield in the hunter uniform is a pretty big blow to their survivability, as is their mostly-leather armour. The best thing to do is what you're doing -- send the military out with a kill order, and they'll return to their scheduled order once the animal / animal group is dead.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
