Slade is theoretically harvestable, using some abuses of the channeling command. Once harvested as a boulder, a stone worker can mood with it. Artifact slade lightsaber is highly improbable, but theoretically possible.

(Basically, you drop a minable floor on top of the slade floor. It is then channelable. The channel has a probability of droping a slade boulder when it digs into the slade wall below!)

To improve the chances of this happening, look for a dwarf that just LOVES whips, and has not mooded. Put him to work making stone crafts, so his default mood will be stone. Then pen him up in a room with a craftsdwarf workshop, and a stockpile of harvested slade boulders. With luck, he will make the legendary slade lightsaber.

How...  terrifying, yet thrilling.

I like the idea of a platinum lightsaber though.  Store some gems nearby for maximum bling, maybe some gold studs, whatever.

I was reading Toady's status updates. He is talking about 'sites' for the next version. Such as elf or goblin... Are these competing fortresses? Not sure how this is different from what is here now.

also with a quad core i5 , 16 gb ram (not sure how important this is) and a pretty good video card (forget the exact level, but its one of the higher end ones), in a larger or smaller world, how big could my fortress get before I have FPS issues?

from what toady is posting it sounds like he might be getting close to another release or am I just reading it wrong. It seems like his usual release cycle is 12-18 months. From what I am reading I think this new release will add 3-4 arcs? I think sites is one right?

just curious on the last one. I suck at this game. I have been playing ADOM and Cataclysm DDA and I kinda suck at those too

Not without modding. In the unmodified game, stonecrafting moods _never_ create weapons. Like woodcrafting moods, they can only make 'crafts', toys, instruments and mugs. Toys include toy hammers and axes, but these are not weapons, they're trader junk with no application whatsoever in the current game. In the same vein, leatherworker moods won't create a leather whip.

Well, I've got a 4x4 embark with 500+ dwarves and its working out pretty well. Its a little slow, but playable.

Thats with a 1.8 GHz quadcore. (Hoping to upgrade to a 4 GHz 8 core with 32 GB sometime soon). You should be fine for a while.

Currently, all of the world-gen sites other than humans are pretty lame and unusable. He's fixing that. I wouldn't call them competeing fortresses, I'd say his finalizing the sites that currently exist, but have no real depth.
