Honestly, if helping an old lady cross the street or carrying her bags is too much for you ::)

There's a few new games I'll try to remember to put online sometime later.
From my opinion--acts of kindness are pretty..subconscious (unconscious? Normal? Common?) where I come from. You see them everywhere and they exist for no...err, inclination(?) or incentive to be done. I guess its our concept of honor or respect...

Guess its the culture people are raised up in...  :-\

You act as if this is an ordinary action to do. Not only is it imposing on the lady, but it is a good way to get arrested or kidnapped and will definitely get you creepy looks.

The other aspect is what counts as an "act of kindness"? I do favors for people all the time.

Mind you, not putting you down. Just trying to put into perspective why, to many people, this giveaway isn't as straight forward.

Yeah, I also wish this were more popular with people.

A lot of people in the US are super caring and nice... I remember getting a shock when I saw these loud little punks skateboarding in a place that was a nuisance to others just stopping and giving all the money they had in their pockets to a homeless man. That was awesome! I think a lot of people just prefer not to get involved with those whose lives are worse off. It's... emotionally draining to some extent, and I think it's easier to imagine a world in which noone is really that badly off because it makes it lighter on the conscience.

In Portugal, where I'm from, people tend to do a lot more small acts of kindness, especially for family or friends. It's part of the culture. The US not so much, but again, I've been blown away by acts people do for random strangers on occasion.

Arrested or kidnapped for helping a person cross the street? Where are you from? :o I'd argue that's not really the norm but the exception...

I'm trying not to be too specific about what counts as acts of kindness, but if you go through the thread you'll see a bunch of examples. People have given blood, have volunteered at local charities, have helped their families take care of big chores they otherwise wouldn't have, helped people with bags, that kind of stuff. I find it distressing that people are that foreign to the concept of just being kind to one another in a way that shows helpful- and thoughtfulness, especially towards strangers.

Also, no worries about putting me down :)

It is in fact the opposite. People do good deeds all the time, possibly on a daily basis.

But when you ASK someone to do a good deed, those no longer count.

So it isn't that "being kind to one another" is alien. It is that it is so ordinary that to point it out is to ask for something exceptional.

My apologies for assuming the contrary, Neonivek. I hope you didn't take it as a reflection upon you and yours.

I'm really glad to hear what you say. It just hasn't really been my personal experience. I find that a lot who are well off in life tend not to care much about those who are less well off. I guess there's more of this within each social class? Anyway, this could be a topic for another thread :)

In the meantime, feel free to pick a game!

Also a game hmmmmm

Well here's my update. I helped a couple of teens get their ATV out of a ditch. (Bone heads turned a corner to fast.) They were lucky that they were not hurt. And later I will be going on a cancer walk. ( in a month or so).
