Lisa the Joyful isn't as good as previous game, me thinks. Its basically Lisa the Painful RPG without any companions to recruit and you basically play with only one character for the entire game, which is kind of dumb in these kind of rpgs. It does conclude the plot for buddy, brad, rando and buzzo, though.

Yeah, LISA: The Joyful wasn't nearly as good as LISA: The Painful for me either. I enjoyed how The Painful progressively changed tone as it went on, but the constant doom-and-gloom of The Joyful was a bit of a turn-off for me. It's a really great conclusion to the series and wraps everything up nicely, though.

..Ehh.. Temmies, like said before, are a reference to the one person who actually put decent effort into Undertale. They've become a fan classic, and are also a good reference to Mr. Saturn.

Not only do you have to spare the monsters, but you also have to get to their "good ending." For example, you can compliment or threaten the Froggits at the beginning of the game; compliment is their good ending and gets them their yellow Happily Ever After, while threaten leaves them with a white name. Some of those yellow names are fairly involved; off the top of my head, Lesser Dog and Shyren both require you to take SEVERAL actions after it's possible to spare them in order to get their happily ever afters.

I've heard that if you do a genocide run the game saves in multiple places so no matter what you do your game will be "tainted" by it, even if you  later do a true pacifist run.

For people who have done that, how serious is the tainting?  Is it major stuff that'll ruin the experience, stuff I'd want to fully delete my save and try again for, or is it just little stuff?

If you did a genocide run, you deserve the taint. But if you're unable to deal with consequences, you can get around it with some steam fuckery. But hey, if you got that far, why would you be upset?

It makes a slight alteration to the ending of a pacifist run that recasts the ending from heartwarming to heartchilling. The save isn't so much duplicated as a file is created in an annoying spot and serves as a flag that you did it, so I'm pretty sure you can delete your save and all your data will be gone, but you'll still get the same alteration. Steam preserves this file as part of the game, so you'll need to disable some of those features and (I think) avoid verifying local game content to keep it from recreating it. Non-Steam versions of the game make it a lot simpler.

I think that it's best to leave the alteration in, however, for philosophical reasons. It's not so much that "it's your punishment and you deserve it, you terrible person you", but more that finishing a genocide run says something about the way you play your games. Trying to ignore it because it feels bad is similar to the stereotype of sticking your fingers in your ears and singing the ol' "I can't hear you!". And if you're in it for completionism, you can do a Pacifist run before your first Genocide run.

I know you haven't indicated that that's at all relevant to your question, it's just something I feel compelled to mention when people discuss this.

To answer your question, I don't feel it's that serious (you might), I don't think it ruins experience, and I don't think you'd want to delete anything, but I would recommend doing it second.

I was thinking more of stuff as significant as Flowey's attack at the end of the regular game, something huge that would ruin my experience as in dramatically changing how the story progresses.

Speaking of which, the Flowey ending is great. 

I'll just do a pacifist run first. 

Second question, and this is more just so I don't waste my time.  Again, just give me a hint as to yes or no, without spoiling details.

Do I do a true pacifist run by saving the butterscotch pie and bringing it to Asgore?

Oh, also, I heard that you can't do a true pacifist run on your first try.  Flowey's missing on my second playthrough.  Did killing him in the first run remove him from the universe?  Is that why I couldn't get a true pacifist run the first time around?

I"m getting some of the themes though.  Reminds me of Spec Ops: The Line but not as in your face about it.  Instead of making the game just a pile of gritty call of duty mans (which I get was part of the point) you don't think twice about shooting, it tries to make likable characters who you naturally feel bad about killing.  I was originally planning to genocide my first run but the desire not to disappoint your new Goat Mom is too strong.

That's not strictly how you do a pacifist run, but I do recommend you do it anyway.

You can't do a pacifist run on the first try because you need to see the neutral ending first, but if your first run is a pacifist one, you can simply reload your last save and continue on to the true pacifist ending instead of starting over from the beginning. Depending on your choices during the neutral ending, it may be non-obvious how to do this - in the spoiler below this one, I will tell you how. However, it sounds like you started another game, so no problem. If your first run wasn't a pacifist one, things should play out differently enough to be worth it. Note that, for a genocide run, you need to kill random encounters until monsters stop appearing - it isn't enough to just kill everything you see, you have to hunt them down.

With regards to Flowey, I will say that killing him isn't necessary for the True Pacifist ending, but he is one of exactly two (I know about) things you can kill and still get the True Pacifist ending, for reasons I will explain in the third spoiler of this post. That spoiler will also imply an answer to your question that is so direct it probably qualifies as a spoiler, so open it at your own risk, but feel free to come back later if you're curious.

As for the comparison to Spec Ops: I think it's a pretty good one. For me, Undertale improved upon a lot of it (it obviously doesn't have the war stuff, like you said), but creating natural emotional consequences for the player instead of just telling them to feel guilty is great, and the message is communicated so much more effectively when you actually do have a choice other than "Turn off the game."

If you kill something in a pacifist run by mistake, you can reload a prior save to undo it and continue with your run. It is impossible to save after killing Flowey.
