Honestly, it was probably the best fight in the game; taxing every resource that you had, while still not being unreasonably tough. And the music is pretty damn boss. In fact... I'm listening to it right NOW!!!

Also saw this comment and agreed.

I feel like Ralsei is to blame for that. His Prayer of Healing is sooo dang good at keeping people alive. I'm hoping that in the future, more fights are like Jevil's in that healing isn't always going to be an option.

The problem is more that Jevil has a tendency to target the entire party, and his attacks do so much more damage than even the final boss that one or two slip-ups can take a character down. If that character is Ralsei (and their HP is low enough that such a thing is very likely) you're in trouble.

Until you use a spincake or clubsandwich to pick everyone back up again. You get enough good healing items that you don't need to rely exclusively on healing prayer.

While having a character downed loses you their action for a turn, you still have room to crawl it back. You've only really reached the death spiral when you have two down at the same time.

I mean, the clubsandwich is only about a 30 HP heal. Use that one someone with -20 HP and they'll still be easy meat without additional healing. But if you use a second character to heal them further, you've got no one defending Jevil's next attack.

The cake is basically a free continue, true, but if Jevil pulls out the carousel or knife move (or any other attack you're no good at dodging) right afterwards you could be back in trouble.

I thought Jevil was totally overhyped after watching a couple of people vs him.

Then I tried to beat him myself and didnt even make it to the third attack

I remember someone (maybe you?) suggest playing the game without saving, but I can't recall anyone claiming to have done so.

Yeah, I did the no save challenge run too. Maybe it'll do something plot-relevant in the full game. Or maybe not. Your choices don't matter, after all...
Also worth noting that you can still heal at save spots without saving. Which makes the resource management aspect of playing without saves much less interesting, IMO. Though farming for heal prayers during fights isn't super interesting, either.

Danced with the devil Jevil and got introduced to the game over screen.  It was harder than I expected, but still only took me 8 tries.  Giving Ralsei the Jevilstail afterward was cute.  "I'm a good devil, okay?"

I also realized after fighting him that I could have equipped another piece of defensive gear on everyone.  I don't think it would have made a lot of difference though.

I didnt lose once through the whole game, playing pacifist.  I dont know if i have the heart to play genocide again

Oh, in this game you can't kill anyone even if you try. One enemy can't even be beaten by attacking!
