I laughed, hard.

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

Skills aren't the only things that rust. Mental and physical attributes can rust too, and given the limited number of skill-gaining jobs children can do it's likely that their brains get rusty over the decade or so they spend doing nothing.

Do you have any other children whose mental stats you can track?

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I started tracking the stats of a few babies. Already a one-year old has gone from great memory to good. Looks like Brainboy just happened to be born with several borderline stats which rusted over the line following the head injury.

I have a brain-dented child in my fortress too, and he's living with that damage for over a half decade. He gained that wound trough a mining accident when he was a baby. (It's hard to be an offspring of a miner family. Or a military-clan. :D )

I had a Dwarf who survived a massive cave in down a mineshaft because her skull took most of the fall damage.

Still trying to figure out how that works.

I wonder, do non-lethal brain wounds damage the mental attributes?
I don't know, but I'm curious too. This subject demands dwarven ‼SCIENCE‼ ! Initiate the MASS-DROP-DWARVEN-BABIES-ON-THEIR-HEAD-EXPERIMENT!!

Overseer: "All power to the colide-o-scope, Mr. Zuglar. Fire when ready."
Mr. Zuglar: "Aye, sir. Pulling the lever!"
A section of cavern has collapsed!
A baby has been found dead x9.
Mr. Zuglar: "There was only one survivor, sir."
Overseer: "Does he have brain damage?"
Mr. Zuglar: "Well, no. But, all his bones are broken and his lower spine is destroyed."
Overseer: "Patch him up and send him back into the machine. I won't rest until every last baby has brain damage, damnit!
Mr. Zuglar: "I love you for your capacity for atrocity, sir."
Overseer: "Oh, Zuglar. You don't know how long I've waited to hear you say those words."

Deepblade's Standardized Creature Parts, for when you're pissed about all the different types of animal products there are.

Well, you could pit the babies into the room filled with weapon traps with training axes in them. Have a GCS or FB sprinkle the room with webs on regular basis and there should be injuries, babies don't gain skills but maybe there will be less death at least.

Dented brain. What.

Coldmonkey: "The idea that having flaming tools and introducing them to the intimate workings of someone you don't get along with is much too human for these forums. I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."
