Animal Cage questions.
« on: June 22, 2013, 02:43:02 pm »

I had a lot of Goblins, during one of the sieges, fall into my animal traps.

So I have a few questions..

1. How do I disarm them so I can metal down their metal objects?

2. Does disarming them make them easier to transport to a newly assigned cage?

3. Why can't I eat them?  They ruined perfectly good traps!  I want to drink from a Goblin skull-mug!

4. Kind of related - I also trap a lot of worthless small animals, like hamsters and stuff.  I can't eat them and don't wish to make them pets and can't seem to kill them.  What do I do with them?   Can I toss them out using the 'pit' function?  Not that I plan to toss them into a pit but I want my cages back.

5. I heard you can train Keas (oh evil birds).  How long would that take?

d-b-d mass dump the cages, then undump the cage itself with loo(k) or the stocks menu

no, but it certainly makes them less dangerous.

in the raw/entity_default.txt
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:UNTHINKABLE]
   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_SAME_RACE:APPALLING]
   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_SAPIENT:SHUN]
   [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_ANIMAL:ACCEPTABLE]
change them all to acceptable and poof!  goblin roasts.

tame them and sell them to passing merchants

trained birds dont fly, but other than that I don't know.

Wow..interesting code...I can almost understand that.  It looks like I can cook anything with that code.  Nothing else is needed to be done?  The Dwarfs don't need serving suggestions or anything?

Lol @ serving suggestions.

Well, I'm not sure if changing the raw/entity_default.txt in the save folder will work or not.  But making a new world after changing the main /raw folder definitely will.

I'm pretty sure it works if you change it in the save folder

on the small animals:
stop using animal traps and giving animal trappers orders to trap animals. They don't hunt for edible game, they collect useless vermin. Note the difference between animal traps and cage traps. Animal traps only trap vermin (tiny birds, rats, hamsters, roaches) while cage traps capture enemies and bigger animals (keas, giant keas, elephant, badger, goblin)

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

I see.  So stay away from animal traps, use cage traps (far away from my fortress because my Dwarfs sometimes get knocked out and fall into them) and/or let the hunters/trappers do their own thing.

Capture keas and use them to defend other kea attacks, hehe its pretty cool watching them kill each other.

Does that mean you shouldn't listen to my pervious sentence and infact listen to everything I say?
