Pretty sure boss Toad doesn't care, other than perhaps giving them a pat on the back for going for it. Imitation, flattery, etc. S'fair to get fussy when there's actual code stolen without attribution, not so when it's just taking inspiration.

Also Towns has enough innovations to stand alone, insofar as I'm aware, and, hey, we've done this topic probably over a dozen times. Do we really need to have yet another go at it?

It just seems unethic to make a game completely based on a free game and sell it for profit.

The Towns devs are very active members of the B12 forums, and all around great people. Growing the genre helps bring people to DF, and I'm glad to be able to support indie devs like the Towns team.

Even if you view Towns as a DF competitor (which it is not imo), it's a well known business fact that when someone grows a market, everyone in that market benefits.

Bashing a game based on what it is inspired on sucks. DF isn't an IP, and they didn't copy code. I see 0 problem here.

Dwarf Fortress is so unoriginal that Towns probably looks similar by coincidence. I mean, really, it's like some lazy programmer slapped Tolkien onto a generic management sim, then gave it shitty enough graphics to be called unique. Probably just looked at Sims one day and said "needs more dwarves", and now he's rolling in money because of it. At least Towns is a real game with a real sale model, not some block factory that guilt-trips you into donating.
