Sigh, so anyways, RPS is a great one to reach out to, like has already been said. By the way, is the implementation of factions (or at least, more physically)  on the radar for anytime soon? I love what's been done with the project, keep up the excellent work guys!

Hm, quick question. Does the hand-written letter of thanks get included in the survival kits?

Sure why not. If you're donating that much it's really the least I can do.

But not the DIY kit - that one will just come with a piece of paper, a pen, and instructions on how to create a reasonable copy of a developer's signature.

Unfortunately, I'm not donating that much (I have to pay for summer classes), but I figured I'd ask for the benefit of the three potential people who would.

Hmm, in further thoughts on promotion... the /r/roguelike subreddit is very popular, as is the DCSS community. Not sure about cross-game promotion with DCSS, but it's a possibility.

I also believe Something Awful is quite fond of Roguelikes.
4chan, for all of the evils of that community, has grown significantly in the last two years and has large, active gaming communities.

I know it's generic, but I'm not very connected online :( I'll keep thinking though

You could also try to get it re-tweeted by an online personality that usually gets projects many more views

There's an SA thread too - they actually have their own branch they maintain and keep up to date with ours.

Hey that's cool, that means they'll benefit from your coder's work too.

Hey that's cool, that means they'll benefit from Ethan's work too.

I'm really curious to see their build sometime. Ethan, as in Ethan of CAD?

I removed posts related to the second ban-dodge, unless I spotted a request that the information be maintained.  Please don't reply when this person returns.  All of their posts and replies will be deleted.  They had their chance to be civil, and they blew it.

Since certain posts were removed, I won't quote them. However in the interest of everyone's understanding I'll state some facts here which certain people seem to be confused about.

From what I understand:
1. Giving proper credit to contributors is important. If you contributed to a project, any project, and notice that the attribution and credits are incorrect (i.e. do not include you) then your best course of action would be to contact those in charge of the project and inform them of the error.
2. They are not selling Cataclysm:DDA. The game will be free to anyone, even for people who don't donate. Even if they did want to sell the game, the license allows that, but they aren't.
3. Having a paid developer on an open source project is not unusual and does not invalidate other people's (free) contributions any more than paying someone to update wikipedia articles would invalidate all of the free contributions that came before.
4. Cataclysm:DDA will remain in open source development even during the time when this full time coder is working, so literally nothing will change other than we'll get a lot more done and get a better game out of it.

There's an SA thread too - they actually have their own branch they maintain and keep up to date with ours.

I meant the programmer that they're hiring via the Kickstarter. The SA guys will benefit from whatever he does as well since they keep their version updated with ours.

Quick question, why make a kickstarter for this? Wouldn't a donation drive (Similar to what Toady does) be much more affective, and less offending than starting a kickstarter?

The major difference that I see is that by doing a kickstarter is:
1)We ensure that if there isn't enough money to do it then the money isn't accepted. A donation drive wouldn't have the nice built in method of only collecting money if it succeeds.
2)We get to give out rewards to those who donate.
3)It ensures that all the money goes to what we say it's going to, which a donation drive wouldn't.

Personally I don't see anything about the kickstarter as is that is offensive, the only things that seems like they would be have only been misunderstandings by others.
