Autumn does not bode well for us. In three months it will be winter, meaning that it will be too cold to grow anything, and we'll have to rely on our food stocks to keep us fed. The farmers are working as hard as they can to make sure something is growing at all times, but with the time it takes to grow, we may not see fruition before the crops die off from the cold wind of winter.
With very little to do except wait for winter, I ordered furnishings built and an area dug out. Although I still resent anyone who claims to be a regent, I figured we might as well have a room for them. It gives us something to do and keeps them from complaining.
I found our miner passed out in the hallways, when he woke up, he told me that the allet, out of nowhere, assaulted him.
When I questioned the allet, he said that the miner had violated a production order, and thus deserved a swift beating. I told him that it was completely inane to wound members of our already small population. He stated that it was the only course of action, given we had no prisons. I sent out an order for some cages to be built afterwards.
I told one of the migrants, who claimed he was a beekeeper, that he was now the chirurgeon general. I afterwards gave the miner's pick to one of our fisherman, and told him to dig out a hospital. The new chirurgeon general was quick to make a report on the miner. He told me, after his examination, that the miner had lost his ability to stand and his ability to grasp. Not only that, but all the bones in two of his arms and one of his legs were broken. Unfortunately, the chirurgeon general didn't think it was a pressing enough matter to move the poor sod out of the staircase.
More migrants arrived, this time 7 formics came to our hives. Unfortunately, they approached our hive from the north, meaning they were stranded across the river. I sent out some masons to build a bridge across, hoping they wouldn't be attacked by wild hounds, or any other nasty creatures that may be out there.
Several cages were finally moved into the dining hall, and I told the allet that he could use those as a prison. Hopefully, since they're in the dining hall, someone will feed anyone unlucky enough to get stuck in the cages.
For whatever reason, the allet claimed that the cages couldn't be used for justice. On top of that, nobody seems to be willing to mine out the hospital, and no masons are creating any furniture, nor are any constructing the bridge.
A carpenter came to me and informed me that he had designed the bridge, and they just needed a mason to build it. Shortly after he told me this, I saw the seven migrants coming through the entrance. When I asked them how they got over, they informed me that the river had frozen, and they walked across.
When I asked our only capable miner why he wasn't digging out our hospital, he said that he was attending a meeting. I watched as he proceeded to follow the allet around for quite a while. I'm not sure this hospital will ever get dug out.
With the regent's room finally furnished with a bed, table, chair, and coffin, I showed him to it and told him to stop complaining. He told me that the room wasn't of high enough quality. I told the masons to make some statues for the room, hoping that four statues would be enough to satisfy the regent.
The statues were finished and moved into the regent's room, though it's still not enough to satisfy him. I ordered for the entire room to be smoothed out and engraved, in hopes that would be enough to make the regent stop complaining.
And with that, winter arrived, bringing its cold, bitter winds. Hopefully we have enough resources to outlast it...
