What is the point of increasing our size really? It will require even more energy to move about, and put more holes in our defense.

My plan is to be the biggest, and to eventually get to the point where we don't need to move.

Increase our size.
Increase protection of shell, like a closable opening where the siltworms get in.
Make our flesh toxic to siltworms. And everything else.

+1 to toxicity, and shell protection
Also add the poison to Probocis, and strengthen it. Maybe develop multiple ones?
Gain the ability to make a more flexible, mobile cocoon for use while travelling

Increase the speed at which we can extend the probocis, and harden the tip, harvesting minerals from the seawater we are pumping through the shell, or the rocks we are eating, if we are still doing that.

+1, though I'd prefer to only have the one Proboscis

Develop subdermal scutes
basically armor under the skin for when we are traveling. Being under the skin lets it heal, unlike an exoskeleton or a shell .

+1 to sub dermal armor

Also, evolve simple eyes, we need to be able to see if we ever want to get out of this shell.

-1 to get bigger.

My plan is to be the biggest, and to eventually get to the point where we don't need to move.

You know what happened to the dinosaurs when they were the biggest? They died due to their low reproduction rates and the need to consume a lot matter for energy. If a mass extinction event were to come we will be the first to go. To solve this we should probably stay small in adolescent then we should be huge towards the end of our age. This can solve two issues we are currently having;

1. We can use our huger selves to store a young then deposit them in their nesting grounds.

2. Then we can use our huger selves again as a motor home during the migratory season.
