+1 to size, better shell protection, toxicity, and better proboscis.

Also, evolve simple eyes, we need to be able to see if we ever want to get out of this shell.

Good. Now you are no longer implying specieswide Oedipal complexes.

Sadly, we won't see anything. There's massive plant cover up there.

Gaining the ability to consume it would be useful. We'd end our migration near them, and devour the slowly when we need to.

Fine, develop earing and use echo-location.

We'd still be inside a shell... maybe we can use scent and/or electrical signals? I need to read up on aquatic arthropods.

even simple eyes will let us know if we are safe in the murk or exposed in the light

Boost our speed to aid in evasion by releasing excess gasses in a higher thrust. Rippling our body is too slow.
Yes, technically this is fart rocket power.

We need to become a more active and aggressive predator to beat the competition.

Evolve eyespots

Develop horizontally articulating, toothed jaws similar to that of a hagfish. Jaws are less unwieldy than a proboscis, and combined with an elongated, eel-like body will solve the maneuverability problem.

Become less dependent on the shell, using it as a home instead of... a shell.

To do this, we will need to become more mobile.

We should elongate our bodies to provide leverage and flexibility and develop a flattened section of our tail for use in swimming, while retaining roughly the same mass. This longer body will allow us to strike out of our shells like a snake or an eel, which combined with our new jaws would provide increased speed and thus lethality.

+1 to those

Summon the gm to update the thread

we don't need jaws, just to keep the proboscis inside the digestive pouch while we swim.

Bthe way, its 3 for eye(spot)s now
