Survivor's first entry, 3 weeks into the infection.The world has fallen. There were too many, too quickly. Every city every town! Desimated by those things!
No, call them what they are, Zombies. Somehow, every city or town with a population of over 10,000 was attacked by a them. It all happened so fast! With the dead turning within minutes of dying. A blow to the head is the only way to kill them.
You have to destroy the brain, its the only way. SHUT UP! I managed to escape Washington and head north to Canada, but no where is safe... just safer.
Everyone you know is dead, everyone you liked shall cry! hahaha! SHUT UP!!!
So a couple months back i decided to try running a zombie apocalypse themed game. It went well... until i got bombed by school and forgot about it, then got lazy. In an attempt to break my lazy ways in a fun way, I'm doing this again but much different from previously. For starters, I'm using a stat system this time around, as well as more emphasis on traits. I'm also going to hide all rolls this time around, partially for my convienence and partially so that the "technical stuff" doesn't interfere with the immersion... or something.
Stats and traits:
You will be given 25 stat points to allocate to your character, between the 5 Stats.
Strength: Increase Physical damage, provides a bonus to strength rolls, increases carrying capacity, and gives a small boost to health.
Dexterity: Increases ranged damage and accuracy as well as physical accuracy with small blades, provides a bonus to dexterity rolls, and gives a small boost to stealth.
Endurance: Increases health, and provides a bonus to pain and exhaustion checks.
Intelligence: Increases learning speed, provides a bonus to intelligence checks, and gives a small boost to Maguyvering.
Focus: Increases crafting/building quality, provides a bonus to focus checks, provides a small bonus to exhaustion and pain checks, and gives a small boost to work speed.
5 is the average for a person and gives a +1 to their checks. 4 = 0 , 3 = -1 , 6 = +2. And so on and so forth. Every stat is important, but focusing on a couple can help in the long run when you have team mates willing to help you. No stat may go over 9 due to balance issues.
Traits are the life blood of characters in games. (besides their actual blood) You will be coming up with 4 good traits, and 3 bad ones. You will have 1 major trait that affects your character heavily for both categories, with the rest being minor traits affecting your character much less than major ones.
These traits are completely your choice and can be anything from a fear of heights, to hating the rain. These traits will affect your characters stats and/or their mental state at my decision. You can throw in an example of what your trait might do to your character, but final decision is mine.Rolls and their affects:
All combat rolls will be rolled with a D20 plus modifiers just like D&D. This will determine how well you hit the target and whether they just got decapitated, lost a limb, caused only minor damage, or missed completely. Your stats will increase your accuracy and damage, with damage determining whether a zombies head just went splat or something, but a natural 1 will always fail and a natural 20 will always succeed.
Crafting and construction work a little differently. A D20 is rolled for if the work is completed or needs to continue, and a D100 is rolled to determine the quality of the work. Bonuses from stats and the correct tools will boost the work speed and work quality rolls. You can choose to work faster to decrease work time at the cost of Quality, and vice-versa.
Zombies will not always try to bite a player in combat, but will have a roll for what they feel like doing.
1-5 They will just stand there or stumble a bit closer.
6-10 They will try to punch you.
11-15 They will try to grab and scratch you.
16-20 They will try to bite you.
Occupation and Backstory:
Your occupation will give you a bonus to certain actions depending on how it relates to the work your doing. (ie. A carpenter gets a bonus from construction with wooden scrap.) Your occupation will also determine your starting gear along with your backstory. I will not include things like a rocket launcher if you say you have one in your backstory. Also, please don't all pick a military occupation.
Turns and Resources:
Every turn will represent 4 hours game time, unless i need to know if a player/players wish to flee an area with a horde approaching or not. The resources your party has will be displayed at the end of every turn, with a community stash for anything in base that is known. Food and water is given with the amount of days you have covered, and how many units of each you have. (you will eat and drink once a day, each time consuming a unit per living character) Other resources you will need/find are listed below.
Scrap(both wooden and metal)- Used in almost all construction, the only difference between the two is thqt metal is stronger but takes longer to work with.
Food- A unit is needed everyday to remain healthy. You can go 1 week without a food unit before constantly losing consiousness due to low nutrient levels and eventually dying.
Water- A unit is needed everyday to remain healthy. You can go 2 days without a water unit before constantly losing consiousness due to low hydration levels and eventually dying.
Ammo(all the types)- Used to fire any projectile weapon. There are many different types of ammo and will be added to the list as needed.
Gas- Needed to run cars, run gas generators, and set large areas on fire. Each Unit is enough to allow a car to go 50km(kilometres) or provide 5 units of electricity. You are told where your total gas is being stored. (cars, jerry cans, etc.)
Electricity- Used to power anything requiring it, a single unit is enough to power a lamp for 24 hours. You are told where your total electricity is being stored. (Generator, a mega battery, etc.)
Batteries- In a seperate category from electricity due to their more specialised use. They are needed for flashlights, GPS's, and other common devices. Each battery can power a flashlight for 8 hours.
Other resources may appear as you find/create them... like bombs! So be on the look out for anything i may be hinting at that you can collect along with regular items.
