Bison Demonic Diplomat?
« on: June 20, 2013, 02:29:53 pm »

I just got a monster demonic diplomat arrive at my fort. He is, of course, a god, but I thought that humans stopped sending diplomats? Why did he come? If diplomats are deities do they still come?

If you have a baron, they should send diplomats (or the equivalent of) sometime before or after the human caravan.

Not that rare I think.  I ran a succession of forts for the same dwarf civ and the first human diplomat visit to each one was their "deity" demon coming to check the place out.

He even helped point out a defense weakness by swimming down the river one time to bypass a wall and closed gate to get into the inner defenses.

Not incredibly uncommon, I had a demonic diplomat from the humans the other day, until a team of goblins killed him.

It's interesting when a goblin-allied demon comes with a siege - I had a fire-breathing demon general once, he proceeded to set his own troops on fire.

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

Will humans declare war on me if I kill the demon?

Do they ever send normal diplomats to discuss trade like the dwarf guy does?

Yes, they will send a siege if you kill their diplomat. Demons are pretty tough, so if you're planning on it I'd develop a pretty foolproof plan.

They will send normal diplomats if their law giver is a normal person. If you kill their demon diplomat, I do not believe they will send another, but I could be wrong. I'd recommend modding the guild representative back into the raws personally. They allow you to influence the human carvan and are generally more useful than the usual law-giver/diplomats.

Yes, they will send a siege if you kill their diplomat.

Replace 'will' with 'may'. If the diplomat dies while on your site, relations with the civilisation will suffer quite a bit, but an attack is nowhere near guaranteed.

Civilisations send a new diplomat every year, there _will_ be normal diplomats after the demon's visit. I cave-in-crushed a rhinoceros brute lawgiver because i didn't want him to track his sleep extract all over the fort, and the human civ carried on like nothing happened. Next year brought a perfectly normal caravan and diplomat.

After the first demon visit I got regular human diplomats from then on - the "deity" did not visit my forts repeatedly.

Well the diety is still here, and seeing as the goblins refuse to attack I am just going to kill the dang demon.

I really hope this makes the humans attack me, or else there are going to be more than a few butchered human caravans.
