You decide that you actually don't want to wear your standard uniform. Wouldn't make sense, after all, as you don't even need to work today. So you search through the closet for something else, and manage to locate a perfectly good sundress kind of casual thing. You haven't worn it once in your time here, but you find that it fits well enough. And it feels a lot more liberating than the uniform, certainly. You place your used uniform into the laundry chute, then head out to get some breakfast.

As you walk off to the elevator, you find yourself in need of more news to keep you occupied with something. You guess the one about marriage looks promising. And it is a bit interesting - in a rather strange twist, Skandi City authorities have decided that it's quite okay for somebody to marry their property, as evidenced by the latest cases in which several Skandi City men have legally requested permission to marry their property - one man has legally married a particular mountain in northern Scandinavia, while another has married his longtime employee, a secretary of the Jonathan line. In either case the authorities of Skandi City have made no attempt to refuse or dissuade these individuals from doing such a thing, citing that it's really their choice if they want to enjoy being throwbacks to older, less progressive times where one truly did own whatever they married, albeit this is an admittedly different twist on the tradition.

Well, that's sufficiently weird. A natural marrying an engineered person? Certainly unorthodox, though you suppose they can live as they wish. You can't help but wonder what must have transpired for a man to wish to marry a mountain. And what's going to happen on the wedding night, too. But perhaps it's best not to think about that. Instead, you should focus on food. You go up to the employee cafeteria, finding it rather empty at this hour, and fix yourself up some food.

[+1] You work the food dispenser a bit, managing to get a rather invigorating blend of various nutritious pastes, plus a glass of orange+ juice, and settle in to have a nice meal. Fifteen minutes later, you're quite done, and feeling perfectly wonderful. After cleaning up what remains after your feeding session, you consider what reservations you could possibly make with Jonathan Two. You suppose you could go to the engineered cafeteria, which you can't really reserve, since it's a cafeteria and open for set hours each day, or you could just host him here, which would be perfectly viable, since nobody's supposed to eat here in any official capacity today.

As you think about it, you see a Jasmine wander in, Jasmine Fifty-Three, to be exact, fully garbed in the standard uniform and looking a little bedraggled. She stops midway through her path to the kitchen, looking at you with mild puzzlement.

"Um... hello there. You seem to be up already. What's the occasion?" she asks you.

"I couldn't get to sleep, but I'm feeling perfectly wonderful!" Ask if we'd be able to help her out today, since we need to share our wonderful mood with everyone!

After what happened yesterday - the bit about our sanity getting the slip for a few moments - this sounds like a good course of action. Being helpfull is always nice. Well, as long as it is appreciated at least.

But we did sleep. We went to bed at nine, and got up at six. Nine hours. We slept perfectly fine and woe refreshed, energized, and ready for the day.

You explain your presence to Jasmine Fifty-Three quickly and simply.

"Oh, I couldn't sleep any longer, but I'm feeling perfectly wonderful!" you say brightly.

"Ah. Well then."

"So, perhaps I could help you with something? I'm rather idle at the moment, and it's still dreadfully early."

"Erm, sure. If you want to, you can certainly help. I was about to bake that cake you asked for, anyway."

You wonder if it's strictly ethical to help her with that - after all, you did entrust to her this sacred duty after beating her at dominoes most proficiently. If you were to help her, it would lessen the burden of loss, which might not be entirely desirable. As you consider this, you shiver once again.

"Alas, by the sacred laws of winning, I am unable to help with your task of cooking. Although I could probably help with getting everything prepared for it, since that's not strictly part of baking the cake."

You decide that professional ethics take precedence over unbearable idleness, if only a little bit, so you decide not to help Jasmine with the cake itself. Instead, you'll just help her prepare.

"I will, in fact, help you! But not too much, of course. It is a sacred tradition, the terms of loss, you understand."

"Naturally."

You follow Jasmine into the kitchen, helping her ready the necessary surgical-precision implements, listening for any odd noises in the kitchen machinery and, of course, giving the food dispenser a little percussive maintenance. After a bit of making yourself useful, you gingerly leave Jasmine to it and stroll out of the kitchen to let the magic commence.

It is at this point that more news arrive, as evidenced by a mild tingling behind your eyes.

I probably would have bumped this a while ago, but I've kind of lost interest in this game, to be honest, so I think I'll just shelf it and try to run something else in the meantime, like an RTD. In any case, I've tested the system at play, so I've at least accomplished some of my goals.

And unless anybody particularly objects, I suppose that's that.

The strange but enthralling news were certainly very enjoyable. Actually, the rest of the story and most of your things are either quite creative, or somewhat "out there" - in the good way.
So, It certainly was a unique SG-Experience - have "My Thanks" for it. ;3

Ah well. can you atleast give us all the news?

Certainly, here you go.

  • East City emergency services undergoing collapse in face of unprecedented disaster, authorities claim. - exactly what it says. The normally reliable ambulances of East City are completely overloaded, resulting in estimated response times slowing down to as much as 8 hours - the lack of recent disasters on such a scale is cited as a result. In addition, most other emergency workers are also busy containing the rather terrible situation. The panic most certainly isn't helping, as it further impedes the functioning of pretty much everything.
  • East City residents running scared, authorities claim relocation unnecessary. - due to the failure of the fabric society, rising panic and the decidedly unfriendly atmosphere in both the literal and metaphorical sense, many East City residents have decided to take matters into their own hands and just evacuate already. Authorities are slightly alarmed, as they had hoped that the incident would be over much sooner and that evacuation wouldn't be necessary. They also fear that those who evacuate might not necessarily come back again.
  • Common people express shock at extent of personal surveillance measures. - the Toroidal Institute of Truth and Truth-Like Constructions has recently come to the startling realization that watching common people, particularly those of the engineered persuasion, is rather easy to perform, even at extensive levels. In fact, whether you know it or not, it is almost a certainty that something somewhere is examining your every move. Like, for instance, where you've been, what you've been doing and what exactly have you been reading on that fancy newslink of yours. Quite fascinating, all in all.
  • Bharat City tightening up security measures and reevaluating transport protocols in response to East City disaster. - Bharat City officials have decided that they will not bloody well stand for something like East City happening to them, and have authorized a complete shutdown and checkup of their magnetic train system, possibly even a bit of reconstruction. In addition, all train company engineered workers will be submitted to extensive psychological and physical examinations, all in the name of public safety.
  • Lots of work to do today, rebellious faction admits. - today is a brand new day, one might say. A brand new day... for freedom! Society is collapsing in East City, and in its place must rise a new order! But before that can happen, there are some interim phases. Namely, the removal of certain personnel, the solidifying of a power base, that sort of thing, y'know. And those that are blessed with this knowledge shall be most useful indeed, for they have a great amount of work to do, oh yes.
  • Wennland & Associates to open up aerospace division in preparation for things to come. - the rather prominent sea transport corporation has made an executive decision to start up a brand-new division with separate facilities devoted to spacefaring and high-altitude aviation, apparently. Guess they figure that if they jump on the opportunity quick enough, they'll get quite the big break - not that Wennland & Associates is small-time by any means, but still. This could be their next big thing, you know.

The strange but enthralling news were certainly very enjoyable. Actually, the rest of the story and most of your things are either quite creative, or somewhat "out there" - in the good way.
So, It certainly was a unique SG-Experience - have "My Thanks" for it. ;3

(And Aseaheru, really? That ought to take hours to complete >> .... -1 )

You see, here's the thing - all of the news were about things you haven't seen and that don't really relate to you in any way, and also about places you won't realistically reach. This is a problem, because it implies that nothing interesting ever will happen to you, which, while it would not have been entirely accurate, still would hold true by and large. I've learned a lesson here, I think, and the next SG I might do relating to similar events in the same setting may be different in that I'll probably choose a natural as the main character due to the freedom they possess.

Most of all, I kept getting the feeling that I was being a bit too boring and unimaginative about pretty much everything that wasn't news or random outbursts.

Who knows, it may allready be written.

It wasn't. I don't write things in advance aside from extremely general notes.
