"Yeah, I think I was with her when it happened... I would like to see her, if that's possible."

"Oh. Well, let me ask the doctor, then," the secretary says, pushing a particular button on what is probably a common intercom. "Excuse me, doctor, but I have here a Jasmine Thyme wishing to see Ms. Bartolucci. Shall I let her in?"

There is no immediate reply. However, in about half a minute, a rather deep, yet unquestionably female voice answers.

"Yes, do so."

The Jonathan clears his throat before speaking to you once again.

"Erm, yes. Go right in."

You do so, opening the door and stepping into the unusually spacious office. It, very much like the secretary's office, seems to be filled with plants of varying degrees of fakeness alongside cabinets full of various medical implements, giving the place a slightly wild, living look, contrary to the rest of the building. You think you see an actual, living plant in the corner, some sort of conifer from the looks of it - rare to have those indoors these days. However, your appreciation of the room is short-lived, as your eye is then immediately drawn to a bed at the far wall of the office, where you observe a woman you clearly recognize as Ms. Bartolucci, dressed as usual, lying on her back. Next to her is a rather statuesque, tall woman dressed in a lab coat who you assume would be the doctor. When you close the door behind you, the doctor looks at you, as does Ms. Bartolucci.

"Greetings. Since I have not seen you here before, you would be Jasmine Thyme 376, I would guess?"

It feels both nice and a bit embarrassing that people recognize you so easily.

"Oh, it's the... new one, yes? Come here, Jasmine," Ms. Bartolucci says, beckoning weakly with her hand for you to come closer, though you notice that the direction of the gesture is a little off.

Do as our Employer wishes. Refrain from giving out too much information.. wait, we do not have any in the first place. See what she remembers from, well, today.

You walk up closer to your employer. She looks really under the weather, you'd say. As you draw closer, she asks a question.

"Um... is she coming?"

The doctor sighs. "Yes, Ms. Bartolucci. She is indeed approaching."

"Oh, good."

You keep on approaching until you're at the side of the bed. You look at Ms. Bartolucci earnestly. She doesn't look back.

"Um... hello, Ms. Bartolucci."

Ms. Bartolucci now seems to be staring slightly over your shoulder.

"Are you the one who went out with me and Jerry?"

"I suppose I am. I don't really remember. I think there may have been a problem with the newslink, something's gone wrong. I have no recollection of the first half of this entire day, in fact."

"What, you don't remember the... metro and stuff? The guys in chemical suits?"

"I woke up in a chemical suit. Don't know why, though."

"Lucky you. I had to run through what the doctor here tells me was a mixture of irritants, carcinogens and a good dose of neurotoxic substances. And I was quite drunk at that time. Now look at me. Weak as a kitten and completely blind. And I still don't know what happened to Jerry. I think he might be dead. Dead, Jasmine. Things are looking rather down at the moment. And here you are, perfectly okay. And you don't remember a thing about the day. That's pretty strange, don't you think, doctor?" your employer asks, her voice suddenly filling with quite a bit of authority.

"A tad, yes. Then again, it's been a very strange day, Ms. Bartolucci. Hasn't been a day like it in ages."

"You're telling me. So, Jasmine, you really don't remember anything?"

You feel a tad nervous now as you're being questioned.

Succesfully surpress urge to look at the news about aerospace-future.
We shall look at it after we are out of the medbay..

Tell her about the burn. She is your admired employer after all.
Anything else would be a tad much out of character, as far as I am concerned.

After making sure you don't accidentally check any news and stare slack-jawed at your employer, you realize you know only a few things - you woke up in a chemical suit, which you have already related to them, and you have a weird burn on your abdomen.

"No, I really don't remember anything at all. I do have this weird burn on my belly, it still kind of hurts," you explain.

"A burn? Hm. Show it to me," the doctor says. Seeing no harm in it, you do as she tells you, pulling up your shirt and revealing the bothersome mark. The doctor kneels down and examines it carefully.

"Looks like a deliberately-inflicted burn, judging from the shape and location, or at least the product of a very unlikely accident. You should have sought help with it earlier. Doesn't look infected yet, fortunately."

She pushes a button on the wall, whereupon a chair slides out of it.

"Sit down."

Not wanting to disappoint the doctor, you sit down, whereupon she cleans and dresses the burn in an efficient fashion. It kind of hurts, but you feel noticeably better now that somebody's looked at it. And cleaned it. Otherwise, that might have really, really hurt later on.

"All done. So, Jasmine, you don't remember how the burn got there?" the doctor asks.

You shake your head.

"Very well, then. How about you, Ms. Bartolucci? Do you know anything about it?"

"Not a clue. Might have been those weirdos in the tunnels, the ones in chemical suits. Why they sent me and Jerry out into the haze and kept her in a chemical suit is still a mystery, though. One I certainly do not like the implications of."

A shiver passes over you.

Excuse ourselves while we read the news with the disturbing title. Doesn't look like a news article.

...

...

yes.

Yes, this would have been good.

Ask Ms. Bartolucci if there is anything we can do for her, as we tactfully excuse ourselves from the room, "to let Ms. Bartolucci rest," Express our deep gratitude that she is okay.

You suppose your crazy little head has a good point, and try to excuse yourself from the room.

"Well, I'm glad you're... uhm... not in mortal danger, at any rate," you say. You almost say 'okay', but then realize that she's kind of blind. And weak, but that'll probably pass. You hope. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"No, not really. I probably will not be in the cafeteria for a while, either, so... enjoy several days off, I suppose."

"Oh. Well, I suppose I'll be going now. You need some rest, I'm sure."

"That she does."

"Yeah, I guess."

"Goodbye, then."

You walk out of the room, then check out that weird bit of news about you needing to leave. The newslink isn't usually this assertive, you think.

Upon checking the news, you find that the article about the fact that you should be leaving now relates to the idea that people shouldn't spend too much time in the offices of doctors, as they are far too keen on placing various cold and/or sharp instruments in uncomfortable places to be properly trusted. The article also notes that neurotoxicity is pretty hard to heal with positive reinforcement and warm thoughts, so there's not much point in trying that. Several experts from the Toroidal Institute of Truth and Truth-Like Constructions have gone on to explain that these statements, in their opinion, are quite true and applicable to a great many situations in life, even if you need to slightly change them to fit just right.

Well, that's good to know, you suppose. Or, at least, you would suppose if it wasn't for another shiver passing over you.
