In that case, let's see. the therapist mentioned expanding beyond our current owner, job, and Jasmines. So... hmmm, I guess we couldn't exactly get another part time job. Maybe we could join a book club o a knitting circle. perhaps a Pirate Age reenactment community?

"I suppose I'll get back to the real world, then."

The therapist doesn't immediately reply, thinking about something.

"We should meet again in two or three days, whichever is most convenient. Goodbye, Jasmine."

You are about to say goodbye, but you are suddenly back in reality, in your rather bare and lifeless room. You feel the restraints remove themselves from your limbs, and your head flooding with information as your newslink kicks back in.

Let's see, first bit of news - West City is apparently going to assist in the relief, rescue and recovery effort for East City, bringing in environmental specialists and technicians to help clean up the mess that's been brewing, and several corporations from West City have also expressed interest in the humanitarian effort, as have the people way over in scenic Central Africa, albeit the Bantu City guys are only issuing condolences at this point, and no official support has yet been declared. Shouldn't be too far at any rate. Good for everyone, you guess.

However, before you can get to the freshest load of news, you go ahead and look for some adventure like a good Jasmine should, at least according to your therapist. Filled with optimism, you head to the residential notice board, and look for interesting things to do with your free time.

Well, there's a painting club, just like you've heard, there's a book club, a knitting club, a sculpting club, a philosophy meeting, an anti-philosophy club, an electronics and repair club, an antique appreciation club, a band practice session in need of some kind of musician to round off an ensemble, electronic music classes, a history club, an alternate history club, dance classes, improvised drumming sessions, improvised dance classes, a chemistry club, a panic club and, strangest of all, a pirate, privateer and buccaneer club.

Man, data processing must be seriously stifling for the spirit, because you certainly could swear that this building doesn't have more than 200 employees. Still, you check out the pirate club. Something about the idea appeals to you.

Ah, looks like they meet every evening except for Sunday, and meetings happen from about seven in the evening to ten in the evening, though on special occasions they extend their operations until well past midnight. It seems that anybody is welcome to join in, too. Certainly sounds like an unusual way to spend one's time. And speaking of time, you check that along the way - it's 17:19, 17:20 now. Hm. What to do, what to do.

Well, since we have about forty minutes before the pirate club meets ,let's check out the painting, book, sculpting, and anti-philosophy clubs as well. Collect brochures and the like. Make "casual acquaintances."

While meeting them in person is a bit hard in those 40 minutes, nothing speaks against aquiring brochures. The Pirate-Club is still our main objective for now.

Faced with so many choices, you manipulate the interactive notice board to produce information about the painting, book, sculpting and anti-philosophy clubs. You find out that the painting club meets today and Thursday at about 17:30, that the book club meets at the cafeteria at lunchtime every week on Friday, which, considering today is a Monday, is four days from now. The sculpting club meets today, and they currently have a meeting in progress - if you went, you'd be ten minutes late. The anti-philosophy club meets on Sundays at 18:00 in the employees' cafeteria. All in all, that gives you a few choices on where to go.

Since you have some time, you decide to check some news. The bit about occultism first, you guess.

According to the article, several conservative pundits are, just like it said in the headline, gravely concerned about this new wave of mysticism and devilry that the youth of the world seem willing to practice ever more openly and brazenly, like the recent Revolution Munroe announcement has proven. All manner of devil worship, black magic and who knows what else seems to be happening behind doors that don't even have the common courtesy to remain closed - why, every day you can go around and find places that pawn various creepy medallions from who-knows-where and offer homeopathic "cures" made from blood and other bits of animals and plants that most people do not even begin to suspect the origin of. All in all, this is a worrying tendency that, once again, indicates the collapsing moral framework of society - what sort of future can we hope to attain if our youth are all a few steps away from becoming pawns of evil things they do not even begin to understand? The only solution for this problem is for parents to take a more decisive stance in their offspring's lives, pundits say. Otherwise, we risk becoming one of those ancient societies that collapsed due to its own hubris and whatnot.

These are worrying news to you at first, but then you remember the word "pundits" and breathe a sigh of relief. Still, there remains the question of what to do while you wait. There are some contact details for each club, and you suppose you could visit some of the people in charge of said activities and get more info, or perhaps even drop in on the sculpting club.

Yeah, fun and pirates games aside, let us stick to the original plan of painting. Or rather - as was advised to us; Let us improve our market value! (No, really, that sentence of the Therapist cracked me up. Good stuff.)

Lacking better alternatives, at least in your opinion, you head over to the painting club, located in the common room two floors down, reading the news about Revolution Munroe during the walk to the elevator and the ride down.

Looks like good ol' Revolution Munroe, infamous endorser of what is popularly termed the "permanently altered life" by its adherents and "being stoned for altogether far longer than you should" by its critics, has finally reached a state of heightened (though not complete) sobriety after her latest three-year bender and apparently has had a stupendous revelation in the meantime, and that is that she and her followers must combine their mental separation from society with a physical separation to reinforce the point, and that they should all move over to Siberia, where a habitation complex many years in the making has been recently finished. Ms. Munroe says the offer to stay at this "Monastery of Mysteries" is open to all who are, in turn, open to it, and that only the "sufficiently altered" are allowed inside. Anti-alteration advocates are rather overjoyed at this development, saying that "the streets will finally be clear of these worthless wastes of space as they destroy their brains with whatever kind of poison they have come up with this week". Revolution Munroe, making the most of her limited sobriety, has also apparently made several exclusive deals with pharmaceutical companies that will provide the happy-happy for the extended, possibly eternal stay in Siberia for her and the 157 followers that have already signed up to live in the distant, inhospitable area in order to grow closer to their favored visionary and obtain all the free chemical-based perceptual, mental and emotional enhancement they could ever wish for.

Anyhow, you get down to the painting club right on time - the common room, sporting a large table filled with carefully-organized painting supplies and surrounded by a whole bunch of chairs, is already host to a whole bunch of people. Namely, six Jonathans and one Francis. They all immediately spot you.

"Oh, hello, Jasmine! Jasmine Three Hundred Seventy Six, right?" one Jonathan asks. "I'm Jonathan Fifteen."

The Francis, who seems significantly less enthusiastic than the Jonathans, waves to you, but says nothing. The other Jonathans, meanwhile, introduce themselves. Apart from Fifteen, there's also Twenty-Four, Twenty-Five, Sixty-Two, Seventy-One and, interestingly enough, Two, who looks a bit more aged than the others, and also a lot more subdued in manner.

"So, Jasmine, what brings you here to our meeting? Do you wish to join?" Jonathan Fifteen asks.

Hmm. I think screaming at this point would require a failed social skills roll. Read the news, but wait on the scream until it is socially acceptable to do so. Like, say, if we attend a horror film or sporting event after this. I hear that badminton tournaments can get pretty intense.
Greet the Jonathans, wave at the Francis, express interest in painting. Ask about their own paintings.

-1 To screaming in company. We can do so later in private.

We also might want to subtly flirt with Jonathan #15, to see if it was only a coincidence that he knows us out of the mold.

Else, enyoing painting would also be an option, but I guess we will see how it suits us.

Ignoring the therapist's warning about reading news in civilized conversation, you read the news about screaming.

Apparently, the Riegert Institute for the Furtherance of Human Health, a mildly respected research institute, has uncovered evidence in its prolonged studies of people screaming bloody murder that screaming might actually be good for you. Several studies have revealed that people who scream a lot have an improved sense of self-importance and a greater tendency to assert oneself in a social situation, and that a good shout, while not really good for society as a whole, is definitely good to make yourself feel better. Particularly if you can afford to yell at people you really hate. That's good to know, you guess.

You could, in fact, try to scream right now, if you were some kind of uncouth ape that's been set free for a day. But since you actually have standards, you decide against it.

"Um, Jasmine? You kind of zoned out there for a moment," Jonathan Fifteen asks.

"Erm, yes. Pleased to meet you all," you say, waving back at Francis, who nods. "I am quite interested in painting, actually. So, what do you paint here?"

"Oh, we paint what we like - it's fun. Sometimes, we provide a theme, you know, to get the creative spirit going, but other than that, we're pretty much putting our imagination to work."

"Hm. Yes."

There is a moment of silence.

"So, how'd you know which Jasmine I was? Am I really that memorable?" you ask the guy.

"No, no, you're just about an inch shorter than normal and you look a bit younger. I notice these things, it's kinda my job."

Another awkward pause. Jonathan evidently realizes something at the end of it.

"Not that you're not memorable, of course. I definitely wouldn't want to imply such a thing."

You stare at him. You're not entirely sure you're convinced he thinks so, at least in a good way.

"Anyway, we should begin. Everybody, grab some canvas, get some paints and let's get to work," Jonathan Fifteen says, moving to the table and fetching the appropriate resources from the appropriate piles.
