"What if they purposely made our lives shorter to make us easier to control? If they could enhance our intelligence and everything to higher levels, they could certainly make us live less long then we normally would."

The man stares at you, then smiles.

"That's an interesting idea! The conspiracy deepens with every passing second!"

You let the guy consider this information as you unpack and put on the chemical suit. It's clearly unused, and it smells really fresh. As soon as you activate the sealant, and click the faceplate into place, you hear a slight hum that you believe must be the air filtration system kicking in. Also, the entire room seems to become more clearly visible and a bit... orange. If only it didn't make you look like one of those old-timey sci-fi aliens.

"I'm not sure I like the way I look in this."

"Oh, don't worry. You won't have to wear it for long, just while we go through the breach. We should really be getting you home, you see."

"Still, I miss the other Jasmines, and they should probably know what happened. Um ... er, that she is gone, not, you know, secret conspiracy stuff. I guess."

"Wait, are we going back to my workplace? Because I don't have anything to do now my boss is dead..."

It feels pretty weird to say that. Your boss is dead. It sounds wrong.

"Erm, that depends. Do you live at your workplace?"

Come to think of it, you do, actually. In the sub-basement levels and not on the cafeteria floor at all, but it's still the same building.

"Well... I suppose. Still, I miss the other Jasmines, and they should probably know what happened. Um ... er, that she is gone, not, you know, secret conspiracy stuff. I guess."

"Don't tell them that you know this. It's good you brought this up, actually, because this is your cover story - you got stuck in the train station and fell asleep, and when you woke up, everybody else was gone. You looked for them, but there was poisonous gas in the way, so you found this office and got a suit from it, then escaped through the breach you found earlier. You never saw any of us, and you don't know what happened to your boss and her friend, or the busker, for that matter. Are we clear on that? It's kind of important that no one learns we were here, you see."

Ah, secret agent-like stuff. You wonder if you're qualified to handle something like that.

(("It's important noone learns we were here!" *places big and obvious mark on stomach*))
"Then what happens after this? Do I just wait for the building to collapse or something?"

Seconded. Also, do we have some form of an inventory list?

"Then what happens after this? Do I just wait for the building to collapse or something?"

"Oh, no. They'll probably just resell you, you know. New house, same rules. Maybe you won't even need a new house - somebody else might just buy the place in short enough order. Or maybe you'll be inherited by somebody. So, ready to go?"

You seem to have coped with Ms. Bartolucci's death already. It still feels weird, but also kind of... distant. You know that things might be changing in your life, but you also get the feeling that you'll adapt somehow. Right now you are unusually calm, considering the circumstances.

You suppose you are ready to go, then. Not like there's too many questions one can ask of this guy, at least not ones that you'd expect to be answered. You indicate to the man that you are ready and he motions you to follow him. Together you head out of the office and over the magnetic guideways until you see that you're getting back to familiar territory.

Granted, the thing that clinches it is a puddle of your own poorly-cleaned blood - such a mess, really - but still. You follow the guy to the best of your ability, and eventually you reach the breached area of the guideways. What you immediately notice is that the breach is rather huge, and there appears to be gas billowing in through it. Oh my. The rebel man guides you to the edge of the breach, on the deformed guideway and you see there's a bit of a drop down to the walkway - nothing severe, about five meters or so, but still, it gives you pause.

"Now, you just jump down here and leave quietly. I trust you'll be able to find your way home, right?"

You're not terribly sure about that, to be frank. You might find it if you asked for directions, you guess. Or maybe just by relying on your sense of direction, such as it is. But you can't say for sure.

Give me a hand down. It's five meters. I 'll break my leg if I jump that far. Then I'll bleed to death from your little gift.

edit: fixed. Thanks miauw

"Can you help me down? It's five meters, I don't want to break a leg and bleed to death or something."

"Oh, sure, sure."

He gives you a hand, lowering you down a little and taking away nearly two meters from the fall. You let go in a moment, landing on the metallic walkway.

[0] You land softly, sustaining absolutely no harm in the process! Success! Now comes the next and rather more difficult part, finding your way home.

You look around and see that this, like most walkways, branches off in a great many directions into the rather confusing mess of buildings you know as East City. You also have no idea where anything is around here. You're pretty sure you have no idea where the Bartolucci building is in relation to here. Also, judging by the fact that there's a toxic cloud in the air and airtight barriers have automatically placed themselves over what you assume would be entrances to various buildings, you are unlikely to get any help from living people around here.

We do have an uplink to the web. Let's look there for a map and get directions.
