Look for the server with a cap of 9999.

Hmm not much players on that server.

Im always ready to start over.

I'd also be up for joining in such a plan, as well.

I'll post my current location in the server when I return home.  You'll probably want to find me on Steam after that to get updates on where to go to meet up.

Turns out the map was reset.  So, let's set a time and all meet up then.

Edit: I'm heading online right now.  Gonna build something then store it for the meetup.

Nevermind, that was due to me accidentally going on a local server...

EDIT: Set up a thread here for the fleet 'invasion' of the server.

EDIT2: Intel users need to have their drivers updated to play the game, according to the download page.

EDIT: Also, shields above 50% will now extend to turret and docked chains, and you can place factories in asteroids. And wireless logic blocks.

But will I be able to construct weapons systems that don't consume vast numbers of blocks just to be effective at a basic level?

My Eidolon is still waiting damnit.

Not with the old rapid-fire cannons you used on the eidolon, no; the weapons are still nerfed to 5 dps per block in the master and effect (but not slave weapon system - it doesn't give a DPS bonus apparently), and shields have actually been doubled to 110 shield points per capacitor block, and 5 SP/sec from the recharger blocks, with armor blocks also receiving a hit point increase. Right now the meta game favors either high alpha damage, which means the missile+damage pulse combo with an ion effect (which requires an enormous capacitor on your ship) or swarms of drones; a couple dozen small targets takes more time to eliminate than a single large target; the AI has a tendency to spread out (note there's no coordination here, it just happens), so the drones don't form nice little clusters. Combine that with turrets choosing targets based on range not difference in angle, and larger craft taking longer to rotate themselves to make a kill, and there's very little one can do to defend against drone swarms except to launch MOAR DRONES. A swarm of 40 drones can easily handle a single craft 3x their combined mass. There's a thread for that now, if you want a better explanation of how the logic behind it works.

The Eidolon isn't going to be able to instakill similarly sized craft anymore with the same weapons. Using the same number of blocks of any form of weapon (if only master computers are compared) will net you the same damage per second, but like I said alpha damage is the key right now, and missiles are the only player on that field. You could use cannons on the Eidolon for core drilling, but the punch/pierce effects have a soft cap of about 7 blocks depth or thereabout, so having multiple outputs with punch-through effects would be the way to go if you're looking for instant cannon-based core-drilling like we used to get on the server.

You could, however, turn the cannons into drone launch tubes to fire miniature drones. Which in my opinion would be fucking awesome.

But no, even now the game isn't very well balanced. I think the idea was for it to be balanced towards the defender, such that combat takes longer, but between alpha-damage missiles, drones, and AI being retarded, that doesn't happen.

However, my biggest gripe right now is that the launcher either crashes during download, doesn't start the second launcher, or the game crashes during load. I've redownloaded the game something like 20 times now, and still havent gotten to play with the release version.

Actually, I'm just pissed that to get even close to the pre-weapons patch level of playability (never mind actually getting her into PvP shape) I have to completely gut the vessel and rebuild EVERY SINGLE SYSTEM from scratch (and the turrets, oh gods why?)  I want to install heavy laser cannons in the spars, but installing an equivalent number of laser blocks is only the beginning of the nightmare that ensues, because then I need a slave so I can fire more than once every three minutes, and of course I need more storage because the weapons now eat vastly more energy per shot, then I need to rework the shields so I have enough generators to keep them up while having enough capacity to tank high-alpha strikes, and I'll still need to maintain enough thrust capacity to actually have decent mobility and on and on and on...  And if I decide to go with a less-powerful weapon system (less blocks) then She won't be able to take out an Isanth in a reasonable timeframe, let alone something heavier.  And her secondary weapons?  Forget it, might as well write them off entirely.  I hate the revised weapon mechanics.

It's not unplayable now, you just have to play differently. The metagame has changed; it's not about really big 20-rounds-per-second cannons or waffle boards for instant core drilling anymore, it's about really big missiles for instant k.o. or really big bundles of really small pea shooters. It probably wouldn't take more than a few hours, tops, to gut the Eidolon's internal systems and replace them. I've done that before too, and I hate it. But you only have to do it once: save the hull as a blueprint, and then plan out and play with what you want to do with that hull, and make little changes as you go. I've been working pretty much exclusively with hulls anyway, and haven't actually played on a server with other players since forsaken's server shutdown. There's no such thing as a perfect ship anyway, but the Eidolon can still become a good generalist for its size range or a superb specialist in one particular role, and by cutting it back to just a hull you can redefine what exactly it needs to be able to do at any point. It was a beautiful ship at the very least.

And when you're guaranteed to die anyway, there's not much point in making anything other than a glass cannon with as much dakka as possible. Just stuff it with weapons and power capacitors.

Well, that's something I hate from these games when you fight it's always lye or death basically, there are very very few instances of a losing ship escaping from a combat which stated (as opposed to, say, evading it altogether)
