Honestly I never understood how to actually make enough money to build other than dismantling entire stations. And blueprints factory recipes seem ridiculously expensive... not sure how much rock am I supposed to mine to be able to do anything.

Is there some sequence of actions I need to do to play this game correctly?

Factory recipes are no more. Rock is useless now.

Neutral stations are all 'decayed.' They can be build-blocked or salvaged but only give decayed circuit and metal blocks, these are recycled at 10:1 into new circuit and metal blocks that can be used in factories to make simple modules like power gen and storage, thrusters, salvage, factory, basic hull and more.

More complex modules require ore/ crystal mined from planets or asteroids. When these resources are refined you also get good new circuit and metal blocks as well - enough that I have not yet needed to supplement supply with recycled blocks from decayed stations.

So start with mining some stuff. Refine it in your micro crafter page of the inventory to get the circuit and metal blocks.

Second you make a basic factory - also from in the inventory. You want to first produce a power gen blocks from this factory (don't place it on a decayed station or it will decay immediately ) if you have none due to a survival start you have to use the power supply pistol to run the factory for the first block.

With the factory powered produce power gen and salvager blocks and grow your salvager as you continue to mine. Make the standard and advanced factories in the basic factory for access to all the other blocks. You may want to make some factory enhancers to speed up production as you mine faster and faster.

Selling the basic stuff is good but soon you want to move up to using the standard factories. These take one type of the refined ore/ crystal and one or the other of the circuit/ metal blocks to make weapons, support systems and some other stuff.

Advanced armor hull, shields, turret docks, AI, cloak, overdrive, warp and similar modules require the advanced factory and significant amount of a crystal and an ore to make one module.

There is no way to make an infinite factory loop anymore. You need to keep up the resource supply. There are at least a variety of filters on storage so you can make factory systems that distribute stuff automatically. Factories also only run while the sector is loaded.

There is also pirate stations. They are typically found in void space, I've only been in between the galaxies spiral arms not above or below the galactic plane. They are still easy with weak turrets. The loot drops in the chests can be disappointing but pirate stations are not decayed and can be build-blocked for valuable hull/ glass still. However they are typically quite far from spawn.

The mining is a little tedious once you really get it going though. At least if you claim a system with a faction block you get a 6x bonus to mining in that sector. If you can get away with mining in someone else's sector you will get a 3x bonus there.

The universe is indeed vast. My home galaxy, basically empty but considered crowded. Some ambitious faction has already build a warp gate network (the blue/ white line) with many intermediate stations 'down' to the galaxy below indicated only by it's wormhole network map (purple/ white lines, white end indicates destination).

Crap, I was all "I'm going to play legit and mine asteroids and turn the junk into factories" but then I got spawn camped by pirates in the shop, so I had to put a Radar Jammer and plinked one of them until I could salvage it, then used all its power and damage beam blocks to kill the rest and harvest them, and now I have like 1000 power blocks and 20 million creds and the shop is all out of money.

At least I discovered that you pretty much have to buy a jump drive if you want to get anywhere, heh.

You can actually put multiple jump drives on your ship and jump multiple times in quick succession. I've been wanting to test whether you can hook them up to a logic system to charge them automatically, but haven't had access to a computer that can run the game (either too wimpy or no java). Overdrive is also a possibility if you just enjoy zipping around.

Also: they've recently changed the way blueprints are handled. Now instead of spawning a ship instantly from nowhere, you get a blueprint item in your inventory that gives you a list of all the blocks on the ship and the quantity required. Supply all those blocks to it, then hit the spawn button, and you get your ship. Not entirely satisfactory yet, and automated shipyards are supposed to be a thing at some point in the future. Hopefully some way to order supplies from the trading guild as well. But you can't just spawn ships from nowhere, now.

Also, now uploaded on steam. The galaxy thing which is rather nice, and a scan computer.

Hey i see the game changed quite a lot from the last time i played, wich was back when the OP was made or something, i loved the concept but what i hated what repairing my ship after a crippling blow, having to place all the block back etc, is there a more *friendly* repair system? or is it still better to scrap and respawn it?

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

If this was my game, I would make the destroyed blocks merely invisible and intangible, that would allow repair machines or whatever to rebuild those using fresh blocks as ammo.

Using the blueprints would work but it would be a pain in the ass if you made on-the-fly modifications.

Pretty much like the game From The Depth does it. As long you still have one alive block you can have repair bot/laser fix your ship :) Destroyed block are marked as destroy and goes invisible and does no offer their attributed to the ship.

they have blueprint and seems they are moving to space engineers model where you put a blueprint in a shipyard and the ship gets built, and it can work on partially built (or destroyed) ships as well

saw from the depts trailer... impressive. did you play it? is it any good? worth 20 bucks?

Just wanted to say that this game made it on Steam.  Didn't know if it was there before, but it's in Early Access now.

Ohhh totally in my opinion, sank about 2-300hr in. Just seeing the missile fly off your ship and the hitting the enenemy slowly grinding him out in painfull ways for a total destruction ( Ok i think ive bee here for too long and played too much DF.... )
