Ah, joined a server. Apparently, planets are, generally, nightmareish lag sources due to physics and chunk loading.

This makes me sad. I haven't played Starmade in a long time because of it.

I don't think the planets lag unless they are set to allow way too large a size or have large ships too close.
I did a no-items survival start in a hole in a planet with three pirate isanths bombarding it for two hours until the trade guild dropped by - no lags.
Total-mining huge swaths of planet plates can get a bit slow on block updates but it works fine. It's mostly just a matter of rendering with the planets, the planet loading is a lot faster with this last update.

I've been playing on the Mushroomfleet server. 25000000 credits to start, only two sectors protected this universe version.
Shops are very rare but plenty of active players.

Best bug so far is black/worm holes;
Without a jump drive (or maybe one of the effects) your ship keeps getting pulled back into the wormhole you just exited trapping you in the very large galactic wormhole loop. I've seen a pair of un-manned cores shoot out of one and fall back in as I was watching. I'm thinking of a way to somehow filter or net derelict ships out of the wormhole loop if they do in fact persist inside of it.

Also new chart;

Is there a higher-resolution- maybe even legible- copy of that image?

Ok, so I had the chance to use the computer lab today. Blew up a planet, made my homebase on one segment that looks like a large ceramic bowl. It is awesome.

Hello, I've posted this on Starmade forum in september, and post somthing else again this week, but get no answer. Maybe Bay12 will help ?

I have some troubles playing Starmade (Windows 7 -64). The sound is terrible, there is a kind of noise after a few seconds or minutes ingame. I've updated my drivers, and i did the copy/past .dll according to the small help screen at the Launcher Sound Options, but nothing has changed.

I've already tried to delete and reinstall the game a few times, and force download etc.

I could play without sound but it's not very enjoyable, and still i believe the sound problem is killing my computer's perf.

2013, i tested Starmade a little, and i didn't get this problem (same computer).

What should i do ?

Thanks

Thanks. I did all of that several times already, without effect. It's really a game-breaker for me, i don't play anymore because of this. It's the only game i have troubles with. I guess i will wait until it's properly fixed.

I have heard that the sound problems are affecting a lot of peeps, they say if you are affect you should turn off sound in the options.

Jump drives are very flexible and almost required. Jumps 30km a charge (unless jumping to a set waypoint that is closer). You can make an under-spec system with a computer and only one module on a capital ship it just takes quite a while to recharge. You can even have multiple jump drive systems on your ship charged at once so you could jump several times without pausing. On the other end of the spectrum you can over-spec the jump drive system with a high enough jump module to total blocks ratio and tons of power that will be able to re-charge the jump drive during the few seconds of the previous jump.

This plain, simple, un-armed and un-shielded jump sled I use to run to the shops or rescue stranded people. The small ice planet mining outpost in the background is my temporary base/ factory/ spacedock.

On the surface is the Mayfly, a multi-role stealth fighter. Perma-cloak/jam, jump, overdrive, scanner, high thrust-to mass ratio, twin machine cannons staggered centrally, a pulse missile, light shielding and two cargo/ drone docks. The pulse missile will take out one of the new up-armored Isanths in one shot and the machine cannon will do 2x2 damage per shot to a faction module so it is a very safe, versatile starting craft if you are patient. It looks ok compared to most stealth builds I think. Space wings!

This monstrosity started as the modest starter mining vessel, "Doug." The copy/ paste advanced build mode function is very useful. I was able to over time use it to 'stretch' Doug longer and much wider as I manufactured more salvage and power modules. You can even save copied templates. Salvage beams take significantly more power this release so after Doug hit the power generation 1mil e/sec soft cap it was outfitted temporarily with one then finally both 1mil e/sec externally-docked logic-controlled power generation reactors and enough power tanks to buffer the output. It's final form was re-named to, "Doug Deeper," which really seems like a porn name now.

Once I'm better funded and settled into a more permanent location It will be re-built into a more respectable appearance.

Are they at least any faster to make up for it? The thing I always hated in this game was that it took a significant about of blocks to get a mining laser that could dig as fast as you can with just your bare hands.

More so hand mining has been nerfed with the introduction of the personal mining laser which is pretty slow. Also use of a build-block on a planet for mining will only return rock - no minerals/ crystals. The space stations are now flagged as 'decayed' and can only be mined for decayed crafting basics which are useful - so no more instant glass credits.

One thing I'd like would be to be able to differentiate between one high-power beam and every cannon shooting a low power beam straight forwards.

This can be done, most effectively with cannons. Since rapid-fire cannons require two cannon systems linked together you build one high-power single output array with an equivalently sized waffle design linked as it's secondary system. In combat you can reverse the linking in the weapons menu so that the waffle is now the output. The only catch is that multiple-output arrays use more e/sec then one.
