I started in 2010 too, I'm somewhere within the first 300 members of the old forum, but like you I messed with it a bit then set it down until vendayn made this thread, then I got back into it.  I think I enjoyed the version from 2014-2015 the most, prior to the weapon redesign, but I don't want to give up on StarMade, so I'm trying again.

And actually it's still free, though I own it as well.

Gotcha. I think the most I played was around 2014-2015 too, did silly things with rails and salvagers..but never really got into fights.

And thanks for the replies - at least I don't feel that I'm missing something or doing something terribly wrong, lol.
I think it would be fun if we all joined the server and slowly throwed crap at the NPCs. But I'll take my time at getting at least an idea of what I'm doing before joining. ::)
I also have no idea what people do there. haha

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

Anyone know of a transparent block that's not as fragile as plain glass? Googling tells me there is or was something called plex glass and crystal armor, but I can't find anything about those or how to get/make them on the wiki. Looking through the various factories I can't find those either.

There are a whole lot of colored glass blocks now, but I have no idea if they are more or less vulnerable than regular glass.  There have been some big block changes recently, so I'm still getting my bearings.

Server's been having some issues for the past while. Might want to have a look.

On the bright side I'm slowly making progress on my first shipyard station.

Crystal armor is as strong and heavy as advanced armor, I think it's in the advanced factory with it's name preceded by it's color.

Server seems to be working fine again. That or I'm too busy building to notice the warning popup. I'll be leaving for a week or two in a few days, hopefully the server and my stuff will still be around when I get back.

Base is coming along nicely. I've got more power than I know what to do with at this point.

89k power per second? heck my miner (that ugly thing in 2,2,2) has almost 500k! XD

anyway I'm based around gmt so didn't see your message, log is now long gone but I guess is this message that was looping around 4 hours ago:

[SERVER][UNIVERSE] Cleaned up Physics, because repository is full

it's either a memory leak or too many active sectors (that'd be strange, with only one players, so maybe it's the new ai?)
there are also hundreds zombie thread on the server, but I don't know if that's normal or not

will install starmade server wrapper later on, so that it'll restart the server every 6 hours.

you might want to start producing hull real fast, all shops are getting emptied :P

edit: ok that last script I put should give a six hours reboot with a warning

I've got production covered already and am currently mining what I need to create a planet-devouring mining ship.

I was on my way back to base from a very long mining trip to get everything I need for a large ship project when I heard some noise and had a warning pop-up on the screen, which I ignore, thinking it was just server lag. I was in the middle of decelerating on long range approach to the station and suddenly a chunk of ship flew past me and I barely had time to read something about the sun and heat damage in that red popup.

Now my ship is missing a chunk. Damn sun, you scary. Didn't even see the sun, didn't know they could be sneaky.

Edit: Looking over my trajectory I shouldn't have been anywhere near the sun. Maybe there was some sort of server hiccup? Long range sun sneak attack?

sun does reach out quite far, I think five sectors or so. that said iirc it damaged directly the pilot, not ship blocks, unless it has changed recently

btw consider investing in a mining fleet instead of a planet eater, should be way less laggy (And works even when you're offline)

I have no idea how I'd go about making a functional fleet of automated miners.

just make miners and put them in a fleet :P

they don't even need a bobby ai for that, just cargo and all the things linked properly

yup. been a while now http://www.star-made.org/news/starmade-0-19624-big-bugfixing-round-fleet-mining - albeit usual caveats apply. how to page has an endless series of workaround and gotchas

Most importantly, can these mining fleets drop their cargo at a station? Not much use having them fill up if they end up just floating around waiting to get blown up or have an accident. If so, how do you set that up?
