Awesome. I was gonna ask if you were making a ship with a huge exposed glowing weak point.

Well, like I said, it's exposed now, but you can see the bottom and top is already armored (I may add a second layer of hardened stuff, with slopes and more color), it's supposed to be the middle section that is going to be a bit saucer-ish. The cockpit will stick out the front, and a couple of doors to the sides will lead to some sort of utility rooms.

I've been reading a bit about component grouping, and this is more or less what I got: shields can be scattered all over and doesn't matter, power gen is better when you only have one block on each axis in each object, same for engines, but every extra separate engine loses like half a block worth of power. Then, you should only have one single big-ass battery, just splitting the same amount of blocks in two batteries can halve power cap. Guns have better DPS when they're tiny (single block is even better) but the range is better when grouping.

So, the inner powercube, I've filled all the empty space (minus the 6 "passages", up and down are mostly decorative) with batteries, and they all touch each other.

EDIT: Sooo... I covered the central part with a saucer (looks more like a hamburger, or something) and now it's really heavy and cumbersome (maybe I should have left it hollow instead of filling it completely with shieldgens?). Anyway, here it is:

I think my basic mistake was not putting the engines last. I'll probably end up replacing the single engine by two 90 degrees rotated clones, side by side. And/or add external nacelles to the design.

Power generators: Each new block gets a bonus as long as it increases it's axis. The bonus to power gen starts at around 8 connected blocks. If you're doing any less than 8, make them as single blocks or you'll lose power. Softcaps around 1.15 million (Give or take) and you get 25 per block after that.

Power batteries: They start out as garbage but start scaling ridiculously as you start grouping them. At one point I got around 15,000 power per block.

Shields: Anywhere, doesn't matter. But they have a soft cap and once you hit that cap you're only getting like 15 shield per block.

Engines: They get an axis bonus and a connection bonus. If you have separate nacelles you may want to get an internal network going to link them; the connection bonus is much greater than the axis bonus.

So at what point is it worth it to put in power tanks? And why is it worth it to put in power tanks; doesn't everything work off total power regen anyway?

It helps on bigger ships when it's easier to just have a large capacity rather than having a ton of regen when you have huge guns and tons of engines.

Aside from factories? Factories that take more than 20k power need batteries.

Once you hit your power softcap, it's usually more productive to use batteries instead of adding more power. Especially if you have a lot of guns and need a stable power supply.

Edit: Been looking in the files a bit. Has anyone seen these entries?

Also, is there any way we can modify ore refine/coarse recipes? Currently each coarsening changes 1 ore into 10,000 lower level ore.

If anyone has had trouble connecting to the server since the last update, Forsaken has updated it to the latest version.

Also, this new version includes a lot of performance in many areas including chuck updates (so things should load more completely when you first see them) and there was an adjustment to make turning rates better for people who don't have completely square ships.

Oh gods the chunk loading upgrade is beautiful, I can load my whole sector in a minute, and new locations are loaded much faster, very well done Schema.

I just saved the Chimera-Class  Light Escort Frigate. Which is the one sort of medium (In comparison to a fighter) ship I've made. Sporting dual missile pods on the sides, and a spine mounted 3X3 wide AMC array. Also, it has a bridge, and the engines are all covered up.
