Oh, I don't know. It's the first time I hear the word 'Altaic' in my life. Doesn't hurt to find out(and lose lots of time and resources doing so) :P

Altaic = Mongol, Turkish, Cuman, Pecheneg, Arav, Khazar, and perhaps also Hungarian.

As long as they stay pagan (for Mongols just not being Christian is enough) they get an extra (unlimited) invasion Casus Belli versus heathens. So a culture swift might actually be a good thing :p

Oh, you mean I need Altaic for invading the territories? Na, I don't think I'm really gonna need it that much :) There's an absolute clusterfuck in there, with Croatia owning it and Hungary only having one province, as well as some small Tengri counties by the Black Sea. It's a keg with powder spilling out, and if I drop my Croatian King Assasination cigar(tm), it will go boom boom pew pew.

... by which I mean I will try to kill the current king of Croatia, hope that his heir isn't liked or is a child, and then gobble up the rebelling vassals. Perfect plan.

Looking around, there aren't any culture requirements for Carpathia. Tartaria is, again, the one you need Altaic culture for. You can see the creation requirements for anything by hovering your cursor over the Create button, IIRC.

Yeah, I saw that when I wanted to create kingdoms of whatever just to get more titles to give out, but realized that I need some fun cultures that I really don't feel like getting, so I looked up empires, and there were no requirements. Guess some of them need a culture after all.

Your lack of knowledge about Eastern European geography and medieval steppe peoples brings shame on us all. I mean, everyone knows the difference. Whaddyamean I'm just saying that because I'm just playing a steppe pagan->Carpathia game?

Gavelkind and multiple Empires is just perfection waiting to happen, anyway. It ain't fun until you lose half the world at your ascension to the throne.

I actually know why they have those names, I just didn't think and read what I wanted to read xD.

I'm still not quite used to the the de jure empires.

Can you even hold more than one empire title? I vaguely remember reading about a limit.

You'll get malus from your vassal kings in the de jure territories of empires that aren't your primary empire title.

What happened in Persia btw? A save or two ago they were ruled by Gnostic Persians, and I wonder if the Muslims jihaded them to death by now :/

Last time I looked at them, they were a clusterfuck of small counties and Seljuk Sultanate of Seljuk Seljuk.
