Have a bowl of magically delicious Lucky Charms(TM). Attempt to read leftover magic, but be cautious about it, even if this means only a vague reading.
This.
You test the air around our hero with a dousing rod. Upon feeling a slight quiver, you allow some of yourself to flow into the air, letting the energy take you where it will.
Magic is a lot like flowing water in some cases. When a spell is being cast, energy is flowing to the target from the caster. When the spell is no longer maintained, most (but not all) of the energy flows back into the caster. By casting your consciousness into the flow of the spell, you can allow it to take you back to its point of origin. Theoretically, a spell could be booby-trapped against potential diviners based on this principle. You have yet to witness such a case and haven't followed this line of research yourself, but you try not to think what this means for you in your present situation.
You let the spell take you where it will as it gains speed, moving out of our hero in the direction of its owner. It is deflected slightly by the microwave, which would be fascinating if you didn't have other things on your mind right now. Whatever happens is out of your hands.
The spell speeds across the land, passing through many houses and giving you a dozen or so glimpses into the lives of your nearby neighbors before passing into the wooded area surrounding your town. Eventually, the energy begins carrying you so fast that your vision fades into a psychedelic blur; now a bright green forest with black spots, now a grey-and-white kaleidoscope city, now a yellow magic eye picture that might be a wheat field. Eventually, the spell slows down and you catch sight of a sign: Greenfield, Oregon.
However, something is terribly wrong. You are beginning to feel sick. You're being pulled in all directions and compressed to the tiniest portion at the same time. The person who cast this spell has set up countermeasures against those who want to find him.
You have two options: you can swim against the tide of the energy that brought you here, which may not allow you to escape in time. Or, you can introduce more of your own energy into this system, causing it to disperse; however, this may take your consciousness with it, casting your mind in all directions as all the compressed energy seeks to escape.
