D&D: Chronicles of Mystara
« on: June 18, 2013, 10:10:55 pm »

I was eagerly awaiting the thread for this topic to show up, but it looks like I must do it myself.

Anyone who's gone to the arcade in the past should recognize this, I can't wait to get started on this game tonight.

Yep it is the game that helped me finally formalize a weird trend in gaming

Which is giving some guys a class but others a race.

Damn....

$15 for something I can play a MAME rom of right now is pretty steep. But it looks like they have done a bit extra to the game, online features and challenge modes and such. I think that justifies it being slightly pricier than I feel it should be.

The nostalgia wave hit me pretty hard when I clicked the link too. I loved the shit out of this game whenever I got to play it, it's right up there with Knights of the Round.

This is...so many quarters spent in my idle childhood. Probably less way more than 15$ steam is asking. Thank you Azurestrike for discovering this gem for the community

I never got the chance to go to Arcades when I was young. Back then though it was all about "TMNT:Turtles in Time" when I could go...
Still it has been something I have been meaning to get a Rom of...

This brings back memories.

The mall where I grew up had an arcade that had Shadows over Mystara. My friends and I played it all the time,  it was the only game I'd spend my quarters on :)

Fair warning, "HD" is a pretty big misnomer. The game is about at the same resolution you would expect from a console. There is a ton of window dressing around the game, but actual gameplay remains pretty much unchanged. The "Vault" is really a place to unlock concept art, and the cheats and a couple game modes. So their "RPG-esqe" meta features aren't much of a selling point.

HD just means it is projecting in HD... It doesn't matter if there are actual HD graphics.

I was the dwarf and I got the cursed sword 1 in my first multiplayer game. Tried to do the jump attack trick but I kept getting hurt. I hope that I'm just rusty and they didn't just take that out. Sadly, I accidentally switched characters after dying to the red dragon, losing the sword. :(

The cleric wasn't turning undead, please turn undead clerics, there's no bonus to actually fighting those skeletons!

Anyone have this game yet and want to team up?

You mean there is actually something I want on Steam? If I had $15 then perhaps I'd finally consider making an account on it just to get that game, but sadly it looks like I'm going to have to go without for now.

Eh? That goes back as far as D&D Basic, wherein "Elf" was a class.
