Newb trying to play with advanced parameters
« on: June 18, 2013, 01:31:23 pm »

I'm trying to make a new world with parameters that will help with my FPS problem, but I can't seem to make it work... Worlds keep getting rejected for one reason or another.
I'd like to have:
-As much good as I possibly can (last time I played, there were no good plants as a bug so I'm eager to try those.)
-little to no evil
-very small caverns
Maybe I should eliminate the caverns and the bottom part altogether just to make sure there is no sneaky running water anywhere.

Can someone help me set what the parameters would be that would actually work? :) Thank you in advance.

First, http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Advanced_world_generation

Secondly:

Good and evil regions can be easily set from their parameters. Those parameters were something like "initial evil/good square count". Just set evil areas to very low number and good to very big number.

Cavern size can't be set, only their openess and amount. You could, for example, set cavern layer number to just one. Setting minimum openess 100 and passage density to 0 will make very open caverns with very little thin passages.

I tried that. It's how I've fucked up every single one of the pre-set world gen options some way or another. Thanks though, I'll just try again with new settings until one sticks since I guess getting someone else to list entire paramaters takes too long for the other person.

world gen cookbook thread. large archive of map downloads, parameters and a better place to ask for specific world flavors. now your fps problems will probably not have a solution already in there but the caverns are an issue. if you breach them you open the entire area to pathfinding. hence if you want the caverns and you need at least 1 cavern layer in order to get plump helmets, you should make cavern openness maximum and the passages as a least dense as possible. this will make the distance between any two given points as a small as possible. allowing the algorithm to complete faster.
