Hello.

... just posting to say I'm still alive, and making tiny progress.

I thought you were making this: Chartered Waters

But you were really making this: progress

Aw yeah.

But really, merchants can trade items and make profit!
And ... well, that seems to be it.
Next up is putting cannons into the game, equipping merchants, then having pirates. Somewhere along the line lies fleets of ships, too.

This so much.

I'm expecting full efficient control of a (colored) ASCII merchant fleet as an end goal along with smart AI. :P

Or perhaps an embark option-to go 'adventure mode' personally (or as a group with a small, fixed roster of crew) as an idea..

For loot and treasure and all.

Ships are sometimes armed now! Next up is adding NPC vs NPC combat, which will basically be a game of numbers. Just like Civilization's combat.

Carronades <3

Planning to add long guns as well (longer range, less damage)?

I should add this to my question: why are the carronades separated into 16+16+4? Is that like port, starboard and maybe front/back facing guns?

'cause that would make it a pretty nice frigate at 36 guns :)

No, those are all broadsides. I do want to add front and back facing guns later.

And yeah, despite the fact that that ship is a merchant ship, it's heavily armed. ;D It's because I randomly pick cannons from a list for the merchant to have.

I have quite a few named cannons.

Howitzers, demicannons, demiculverins, minions, rapidfire cannons, beliere cannons, carronades, pedro cannons, titans, culverins, falcon cannons, and hyperion cannons. Other than the Titan cannon, you could say they are all what you'd call a naval long gun. Right now, they differ little excluding their price and base damage, but I plan on balancing them better later. The Rapidfire also is exceptional in that it has a high reload rate, and the Titan has the best armor penetration.

More pictures! I added armor now.

I'm probably going to let merchants have random extra sails now, since it's basically the same process as the one I have currently, then finally move on to NPC vs NPC combat.

...xD

I love that humor.

"You have no armor." is now subverted.

..I've been wondering-do you plan on implementing a different method of attack other than cannons to the orthogonal position from the merchant ship? Like..well, differentiating from cannons? :P
